The Faculty Educator – Critical Care Paramedicine (CCP) is an education role responsible for the design, development, delivery, assessment, and evaluation of the Initial Education program for Critical Care Paramedicine.
This position focuses on the CCP Initial Education program and supports the preparation, progression, and assessment of learners entering Critical Care Paramedic practice. The Faculty Educator works collaboratively with others, to ensure educational quality, consistency, and alignment with Accreditation Canada standards, Ornge policies, and evidence-informed academic best practices.
Key Accountabilities:
Initial Education – Critical Care Paramedicine:
- Lead the design, development, delivery, and ongoing refinement of assigned CCP Initial Education curriculum.
- Facilitate didactic, simulation-based, and applied learning activities aligned with CCP program learning outcomes and scope of practice.
- Conduct formative and summative learner assessment, including written, simulation-based, and performance-based evaluations.
- Evaluate learner progression and provide timely, constructive academic feedback.
- Provide academic guidance, coaching, and direction to learners throughout the CCP Initial Education program.
- Support the Program Lead and the Manager of Paramedic Education in ensuring that:
- Program design, delivery, and assessment meet or exceed Accreditation Canada requirements.
- Educational practices align with adult learning theory and academic best practices.
- Provide academic direction and support to Adjunct Faculty Educators (AFEs), Paramedic Practice Mentors (PPMs) and Clinical Practice Leads (CPLs) involved in CCP Initial Education delivery.
- Participate in curriculum review, program evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives related to CCP Initial Education.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of simulation-based education and assessment within the CCP program.
- Foster psychologically safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments for all learners.
Professional Accountability:
- Maintain an annual Professional Development Plan, reviewed with the Manager of Paramedic Education and Clinical Simulation.
- Maintain clinical and professional currency in accordance with professional designation requirements.
- Participate in faculty mentorship, peer development, and education quality initiatives related to CCP Initial Education.
- Uphold Ornge values, educational standards, and learner-centred teaching practices.
Qualifications:
Qualifications (Required):
Post-secondary education in at least one of the following:
- Critical Care Paramedic
- Registered Nurse (L&D, NICU, PICU, ICU, ER)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Anesthesia Assistant
- Clinical Research
Assets (Preferred):
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Graduate-level education
- Minimum five (5) years of independent clinical practice in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience teaching health professionals.
- Education and/or experience in adult education and/or healthcare simulation.
- Experience using low- to medium-fidelity simulation equipment.
- Maintenance of professional certification and clinical activity.
- Formal education in simulation, debriefing, or instructional design.
- Experience in curriculum design, academic program delivery, or accreditation environments.
- Knowledge of Ontario’s ambulance system and Base Hospital framework.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and audiovisual teaching technologies.
