Position Available:       Property Specialist

Position Status:2-Year Contract

Location: 5310 Explorer Drive, Mississauga

Reporting To:Manager, Facilities and Development

Hours of Work:       Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

 

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities and Development.

The Property Specialist delivers a comprehensive facility service program, for assigned properties, to deliver safe, functional, and efficient environments in support of our core mandate as the provinces Critical Care medical transport provider. The Property Specialist has prime responsibility for maintaining Ornge facilities in SOGR, and engages and directs essential contracted facilities services, building/critical equipment preventative maintenance, emergency repairs and capital improvements.

Ornge has 9 Aviation Bases, 5 Land Ambulance Bases, Corporate Head Office and Operations Warehouse, 3 crew houses, and multiple leased trailers/ancillary spaces across Ontario.

Responsibilities:

  • Buildings, and inherent building systems for Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Fire Safety, Security, Lighting, and monitoring of critical equipment for designated properties are in SOGR and compliant with all applicable codes/legislation.
  • Supervises and administers contractor activities, including the development of work scope and deliverables, obtaining quotes, negotiating terms and pricing, preparing Purchase Requisitions, execution of the work, and compliance with Safety training, WSIB clearance, Environmental policy and insurance coverage.
  • Contributes as requested to annual budgeting for Facilities, adherence to long term Facilities planning, the Health and Safety program and committee work, and Environmental Management program duties and responsibilities, and Fire Warden.
  • Working directly with assigned Base Managers, act on requests for space planning and other initiatives including renovations and internal moves to meet operational changes and expansion.
  • Provides regular inspection of buildings and critical equipment such as emergency generators, hangar doors, building systems (CCTV, Access Control, Lighting, and HVAC. Ensures follow-up activities to maintain valid critical equipment is fully operational.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education related to Facilities, Property Management, Buildings, Systems and/or Trades training.
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience as a Property Specialist or in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of all applicable health and safety laws and environmental guidelines.
  • Knowledge of facility related trades including plumbing, electrical, mechanical and HVAC.
  • Ability to develop / interpret facilities-related contracts and read drawings
  • Knowledge/ experience of government purchasing and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of building codes, electrical, mechanical, and life safety. 
  • Experience in planning/leading (construction or maintenance/repair) building projects is desirable.
  • Ability to travel 20% of time through out Ontario with some locations being remote / semi-remote.
