Role Description:

The goal of this position is to support all care teams across the organization in comprehensive and targeted chart reviews -- to ultimately facilitate efficient and effective medical care for our patients. In addition, this role will partner with regional and central leaders, particularly Population Health Directors, Senior Medical Directors, Senior CIS, and Clinical Documentation program leaders, to support chart review workflow optimization. The Supervisor acts as an in-role expert on all Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) related matters including: training, ongoing audits and assistance with implementation of any new CDS workflows and queries. In addition, they will engage with the program Population Health Associate to facilitate successful onboarding of new CDSs. The Supervisor will report to the program Population Health Associate. 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of up to 8 Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDSs)

    • Ongoing audits and feedback for CDSs in pod

    • Point person for suspecting questions from CDSs within their pod 

  • New CDS onboarding

    • Quarterly Slide Training for CDS Onboarding will be shared between LCDS' with rotation based on new hire start date 

  • Documentation Reviews and Suspecting

    • Chart reviews for high priority / new providers / first WRVs / targeted lists

    • Attendance at targeted Clinical Documentation Reviews, as needed in regions without regional CDSs

    • Partnership with Population Health Directors on general chart review support and strategies for region

  • Medical Records review

    • Access EMRs to identify potential suspects based on test results, etc.

    • Review EMRs to find support for suspected HCCs 

    • Identify med records requests from BB, need for supporting documentation

  • Become an expert in tracking down and leveraging external resources, such as hospital records, Blue Button, and payer data, to support retrospective and prospective accurate documentation 

  • Identify regional trends and training opportunities to support clinical documentation accuracy improvement; help lead trainings as needed

  • Other duties, as assigned

What are we looking for?

  • At least 6 months experience as a CDS

  • Ease and expertise working with multiple technical systems

  • Ability to collaborate across multiple teams and engage in multiple perspectives to work toward a common goal

  • Proven experience and ability to build relationships with Providers

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment 

  • Self-starter with high degree of drive, initiative, and follow through 

  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long term goals 

  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
