About the Position

 

The Manager, Photography plays a key role as part of the digital team in the Brand Marketing and Communications department and reports to the Senior Manager, Photography.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience in editing large numbers photos in a fast-paced event environment on deadline. Applicants must be comfortable working collaboratively with diverse internal teams and representing the digital team’s interests; they must also have superior organizational skills, a strong attention to detail, the ability to manage deadlines and juggle tasks with minimal supervision.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Tell New York Road Runners’ story through photography at our events, races, and programs, ensuring that all images meet the highest artistic and technical standards and represent and align to the NYRR brand and mission to help and inspire people through running
  • Organize and maintain the constantly growing photo archive
  • Work with various departments to help fulfill photo needs
  • Traffic and edit large volumes of photos from NYRR races and events on deadline
  • Direct photographers and subjects on-site at events and races
  • Assist Senior Manager with invoicing, contracts, and assigning photographers
  • Find, vet, and cultivate freelance photographers

 

Job Requirements

 

  • Passionate about using photography as a platform to help and inspire
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a photo editor in a high-volume event environment
  • High-energy, goal-oriented, and motivated by challenges
  • Organized, able to handle the pressure of a fast-paced environment and still maintain a strong attention to detail with minimal supervision
  • Creative, self-motivated, and able to prioritize and multi-task under tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively across teams
  • MAC proficient with experience using Photoshop and Photo Mechanic
  • Understands technical specs for print and Web
  • Familiarity with Web publishing
  • Knowledge of photo licensing and photographer contracts
  • Extensive network within the photo community
  • Some weekend availability/flexible schedule around marquee races
  • Bonus: experience as an event/sports photographer, although this is NOT a photographer position
