Manager, NYRR Run for the Future

The Manager of NYRR Run for the Future is responsible for the long-term program planning, implementation, communication strategy, and management of program operations, coaching staff, and partnerships.  This position reports to the Director, Runner Engagement.


Job Responsibilities: 

  • Design youth-centered programming that achieves the outcomes and objectives of NYRR Run for the Future
  • Build year-round operation timelines, workflows, and process documents to track deliverables
  • Develop an outreach model to recruit strong youth participants from schools, community centers, and nonprofits
  • Design, manage and evaluate the application process including acceptance and communication strategy
  • Support annual program budget development and re-projections and monitor all expenses and orders
  • Work cross-departmentally with NYRR Marketing, PR, IT, Development & Philanthropy, Event Development & Production to produce NYRR Run for the Future programming, events and support NYRR initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Strategy & Planning team on alignment with NYRR Run for the Future logic model, program evaluation activities, and Salesforce database needs
  • Determine external presenter needs, and manage relationships and contracts

Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hire, train and manage NYRR Run for the Future staff, including the NYRR Run for the Future Coordinator, part-time coaches and support staff, and interns
  • Effectively manage employee performance through communication of expectations and standards
  • Prepare performance appraisals. Work with next level management (directors or department head as applicable) when employee performance does not meet standards
  • Provide effective feedback and coaching to employees, including potential areas of improvement
  • Create goals for the team and individual employees
  • Encourage an environment of transparency, support, development, and growth
  • Delegate and distribute tasks and responsibilities appropriately
  • Ensure employees and staff adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Make decisions based on best interest of organization
  • Track employee attendance
  • Collaborate with Human Resources as support
  • Promote team culture that coincides with NYRR mission and core values


Job Requirements: 


  • Four years of relevant work experience in youth programming and design
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Experience working with girls and young women in educational or empowerment settings preferred

 Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience preferred
  • Coaching or fitness instruction, at any level, preferred
  • Valid and current training and/or certification in relevant areas

 Skills and Attributes:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Ability to understand the needs of diverse populations is essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel throughout the five boroughs
  • Willingness to work several weekend days a year at major New York Road Runner events
