About the Team

The Strategic Partnerships team, part of the Strategic Partnerships and Runner Products Department, is responsible for generating and garnering corporate revenue, value and promotion for NYRR in exchange for marketing and advertising benefits to its partners. The team seeks to match the needs of NYRR with that of partners’ and their various objectives.  NYRR’s needs include monetary investments, as well as value-in-kind products and services, which help to reduce NYRR’s expenses, and partner marketing/promotional support, which helps to build the NYRR brand and expand the audience.  In addition to bringing in revenue, the team ensures that NYRR delivers on its obligations to its partners.  The partner portfolio is comprised of more than 20 brands including TCS, New Balance, United Airlines, Gatorade Endurance and Michelob Ultra.

 

About the Position

The Manager, Strategic Partnerships is responsible for supporting corporate and charity partner relations, race sponsorship execution, and organizational and departmental initiatives.  The position reports to the Director of Strategic Partnership and assists in all day-to-day operations of the department including executing partner deliverables, trafficking creative, creating run of shows and event logistics documents and project recapping.  The Manager will work in a team environment, and be assigned to manage a number of partners in the NYRR portfolio.  The position requires some work on evenings and weekends, to supervise partner-sponsored programs at the NYRR RunCenter featuring the New Balance RunHub and NYRR races.  The ideal candidate can multi-task effectively; is an organized project manager; has experience in account management and leadership; and has background in live event production.

 

  

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead partner relations, managing status call agendas, project plans, meeting notes and recaps for an assigned portfolio of partners
  • Create and develop mutually beneficial integrated marketing programs for assigned partners by working to understand the partners’ marketing objectives and priorities, while maintaining top-notch client service
  • Oversee tracking of assets lists
  • Communicate with cross-functional departments including Brand Marketing and Communications (BMC) and Events Development and Production (EDP), to ensure sponsorship deal points are executed on time and on budget, including but not limited to:
    • Advertising elements such as signage, media and other creative executions
    • Hospitality assets such as race entries and VIP invitations
    • Digital and social media integration
    • Point-of-sale and other retail marketing promotions
    • Value-in-kind product distribution
  • Manage multiple projects from start to finish, including but not limited to:
    • Setting objectives and timelines
    • Running meetings
    • Creating run of show and logistics documents
    • Coordinating and tracking all deliverables
    • Planning and executing on-site activations
    • Creating event recaps
  • Attend assigned races and ensure partner deliverables are executed (may include signage, event sites, hospitality tents, product distribution, speaking opportunities); and help produce run of show
  • Communicate project updates to both the partners and senior management in a timely manner
  • Mentor and develop team members through coaching, training and identifying areas for growth
  • Effectively manage employee performance through communication of expectations and standards
  • Successfully manage a varied portfiolio via effective delegation and project leadership
  • Prepare goals and performance appraisals. Work with next level management (directors or department head as applicable) when employee performance does not meet standards
  • Manage vendor relationships and process invoices
  • Support department directors and VP in creation, organization and delivery of business development and renewal documents
  • Assist with partner and category research (i.e., understand partner’s marketing and sponsorship objectives and industry competitors) and provide updates
  • Lead seasonal departmental and organizational initiatives as applicable

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 to 5 years of account management, or sponsorship experience, which may include agency (integrated marketing) or brand-side marketing experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience successfully managing and developing direct reports
  • Experience planning and producing live events
  • Sales and sponsorship valuation experience preferred

 

Education

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field; graduate degree is a plus.
