Manager, Program Evaluation

About the Position

This role is responsible for driving outcome management at NYRR to increase the quality and impact of our youth and community programs. This is a highly collaborative role that requires exceptional skills in leadership, communication, and data analysis. The Manager, Program Evaluation will apply rigorous data management and measurement techniques and will share resulting recommendations with stakeholders throughout the organization. This job presents a unique opportunity to become a prominent member of NYRR’s strategy team, helping to assess and shape our nationally-recognized programs.


Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):

Strategic Collaboration

  • Serve as a key resource and strategic thought partner to senior leadership throughout the organization
  • Collaborate with internal/external resources to develop meaningful outcome measurements and methods of program/project evaluation
  • Lead process of creating and revising summative and formative evaluation frameworks and data tools
  • Nurture a culture of continuous learning: help motivate and support staff, in conjunction with members of senior leadership, to do the hard work of reflecting on what is and isn’t working, and adapting/problem solving to improve outcomes for the youth and communities we serve

Data Collection and Management

  • Manage the development and implementation of data collection tools
  • Develop and administer surveys, interviews, and focus groups to key program stakeholders
  • Clean and merge data from multiple sources
  • Build and maintain primary data sets across programs
  • Define business and technology requirements for data collection across multiple platforms and workflows

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Execute quantitative (descriptive and inferential statistics) and qualitative (focus group, interview, and textual data) analyses to report on program participation data, progress against key program milestones, and participant outcomes
  • Synthesize multiple sources of data into written reports that are communicative, visually appealing, and shared with senior leadership, board, and external constituents
  • Communicate and present programmatic insights to senior leadership, board, and other NYRR constituents
  • Provide accurate and timely responses to ad hoc data and analysis requests from various NYRR departments
  • Create technical documentation outlining data sources and data extraction protocols
  • Identify and pursue areas for additional analysis

Research Support and Synthesis

  • Manage administrative aspects of external research collaborations with program development teams, study partners, and other associated personnel
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all aspects of external research collaborations and support activities to ensure efficient operations and a collaborative environment
  • Liaise between principal and sub-investigators of external research collaborations assuring compliance with regulatory and institutional mandates (including administration of staff training, fingerprinting, administration of consent/assent forms, maintenance of data privacy and security measures, submission of research results, etc.)
  • Advance knowledge sharing within the health, wellness, and physical activity field by conducting literature reviews and market landscape research


Job Requirements:


  • Minimum undergraduate degree in statistics, psychology, sociology, public policy, public health or related field and/or successful completion of relevant coursework in program evaluation, analytics, or statistics
  • Experience in non-profit, community-based, or academic environments conducting formative and summative program evaluations or applied research
  • 2-3 years of experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods: Survey design, focus group/interview guide development, data collection, management and analysis
  • Exceptional analytical skills and experience in conducting descriptive and inferential statistical analysis of quantitative data and analysis of qualitative data
  • Strong ability to synthesize multiple sources of mixed-method data into reports for a wide range of audiences
  • Strong ability to translate data into practical, actionable insights and recommendations for program managers
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work both independently and across multiple departments/functions
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience with statistical data analysis software and/or advanced Excel skills, including analytic functions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
