Position Overview: The Junior Accountant will support the AP (Accounts Payable) management team in the daily operations of the Accounting department and participate in the monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial closings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Review invoices and payment requests for satisfactory approval, contact employees for proper back-up documentation for payments and clarify questionable invoice items and prices, or obtain approvals 
  • Ensures that expenses are charged to appropriate department & GL account 
  • Prepare AP payments and check runs for EDC, BNYC, IDA, TCR, NCC, LDC, PRIF 
  • Review and process employee reimbursements 
  • Review and record Purchase Card transactions associated with corporate travel 
  • Organize and file all processed payment vouchers 
  • Coordinate the inflow of W-9s to Financial Reporters for set up 
  • Perform anti-fraud verification of EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) info before sending to Financial Reporters for set up 
  • Retrieve documents from current database and archive upon request 
  • Perform year-end document archiving 
  • Coordinate and complete FOIL requests 
  • Complete and provide ST-119.1 forms, W-9s, credit applications as needed 
  • 1099 review and processing 
  • Prepare journal entries as needed 
  • Prepare reconciliations and analyses monthly 
  • Support in the year-end accrual process 
  • Respond to inquiries regarding payment request status 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • 1-2 years of general Accounting experience 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Knowledge and proficiency of Accounting/Finance principles 
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills 
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal  
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment 
  • Must obtain/maintain New York City residency within 180 days of hire
