About the Legal Department:  The Legal Department provides advice and representation for conduit tax exempt bond financings; abatements and exemptions from real estate taxes, sales tax on construction materials and mortgage recording taxes; new markets tax credit transactions; investments in New York based early stage companies; loan programs for emerging developers and minority, women-owned and disadvantaged developers; real estate development activities (including land sales and leases); construction projects; litigation and corporate matters, interacting with private companies, City, State and federal agencies and the Port Authority. 

Job Summary: 
Major not-for-profit urban development corporation seeks detail-oriented, self-motivated attorney with experience in financial transactional law and an interest in economic development projects to join its Legal Department to provide legal counsel to New York City Economic Development Corporation (“NYCEDC”).

Qualifications:

  • At least three years of post-law school experience in financial transactional law is required.  Experience with real estate law and/or economic development is a plus.
  • Admission to practice law in New York is strongly preferred.
  • New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire.

About NYCEDC:
The New York City Economic Development Corporation is a not-for-profit corporation that reports to the City’s Deputy Mayor for Housing and Economic Development.  Its mission is to create shared prosperity across New York City’s five boroughs by strengthening neighborhoods and growing good jobs.

NYCEDC is responsible for the design and construction of a wide variety of projects throughout the City.  It also manages certain City-owned real estate and is responsible for its maintenance and repair, including emergency repairs.  NYCEDC’s staff includes engineers, architects and landscape architects.
