Technical Services Administrator (4486)
The National Radio Astronomy Observatory is recruiting a Technical Services Administrator. The position is responsible for assisting with the proposal development process for the Central Development Lab’s new development and work for others (WFO) projects. This position requires a strong technical knowledge and acts as a department resource to assist with the assembly of draft proposals and internal reports.
This position is based at the Central Development Laboratory in Charlottesville, VA on the grounds of UVA. Job Duties Summary
The critical elements of the position will include the following:
- During the proposal development phase, assist in creating accurate, clear and effective technical and other documentation for new development and WFO projects.
- Prepare preliminary internal project work descriptions, cost and schedule estimates.
- Draft internal reports.
- Review technical data for accuracy.
- Assist with troubleshooting hardware problems.
- Assist with preliminary and critical design reviews by preparing drafts of technical documents and coordinating design review processes.
- Manage version control for technical and other project documentation.
- Execute other technical tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigators and/or the CDL director.
- Prepare domestic and international shipping documents in coordination with import/export procedures.
- Perform other tasks as assigned
While performing the duties of this job, the Technical Services Administrator typically sits at a desk, uses a personal computer, telephone, photocopier, facsimile, and other standard office equipment; the ability to climb stairs is required. The employee frequently is required to communicate in person, by electronic mail, and by telephone.
Associate of Science degree (A.S.) or equivalent in a relevant field.
Two years of technical proposal development, technical writing, or project coordination experience.
Prior work experience in a technical field.
Ability to interact effectively with Engineers, Technicians, Management, and others to acquire the accurate information. Excellent communication skills (verbal and writing). Demonstrate knowledge of good technical writing; be able to explain concepts and processes clearly and effectively in writing. Take responsibility for the assigned work and complete assignments, projects, and goals on schedule. Demonstrate the ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem. Demonstrate the ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task. Demonstrate the ability to formulate sound decisions using the available information. Advanced working knowledge of general office productivity software (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Adobe suite etc) as well as more specific tools like MS Project, Access, issue tracking systems, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) etc. Prior experience working with enterprise resource planning systems, JD Edwards experience preferred.
