Position Description

 

Position Summary

AUI is recruiting for a temporary, part-time Administrative Clerk to provide basic clerical support for the AUI Fiscal office located on the campus of the Green Bank Observatory in Green Bank, WV. The position is a part time, non-benefited positon.

 

Job Duties Summary:

The Administrative Trainee will perform any combination of entry-level clerical duties requiring general knowledge and application of various work methods and procedures. Illustrative duties may include, but are not restricted to, writing, typing or entering information into a computer to prepare correspondence or reports; preparing, issuing and sending out requests for information, policies, statements, and reports. Operating various office machines; opening and routing mail; answering telephone, conveying messages, and running errands; filing, sorting, stamping or numbering forms or documents by hand or by machine; filing and photocopying documents.

 

Work Environment

The Administrative Trainee will work in an office environment within a public facility.

 

Position Requirements:

 

Minimum Education

High School diploma or GED

 

Preferred Experience

Prior experience working with the public.

 

Additional Requirement

Must have valid driver’s license.

 

Competency Summary

Comprehensive knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment, and administrative techniques; thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic.  Knowledge of personal computers, including word processing and spreadsheet software (MS Office Excel and Word).   Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction; ability to organize and perform work independently in the absence of specific instructions.  High awareness and understanding of the high level of confidentiality required in the position. The candidate should desire to learn in a business office environment, deal with organizations of various backgrounds including state and local government and businesses. The qualified individual must have good communication and organizational skills. Must be able to type at least 30 WPM.

 

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically sits at a desk, uses a personal computer, telephone, photocopier, facsimile, and other standard office equipment.  The employee may occasionally be required to work outside around construction equipment.  The employee may occasionally drive a vehicle, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee frequently is required to communicate in person, by electronic mail, and by telephone.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
