Position Description:

 

Associated Universities, Inc. (AUI) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accountant to work in our Green Bank, WV location. The successful candidate will be responsible for applying accounting principles to ready and maintain financial and business transactions in an analytical, evaluative, and advisory role.  The incumbent will support general ledger activities, including account reconciliations, monthly close and other financial duties as required.  Additionally, this role will support special projects such as balance sheet consolidation and compliance related issues. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare month-end close entries in support of monthly financial statements.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations for assigned accounts and resolve outstanding items as required.
  • Interpret provisions in grant/contract documents relating to payment terms/billing and limitations on cost.
  • Perform monthly and annual reconciliations of revenue, cash receipt, and other project activity against the general ledger and project ledger.
  • Assist in preparation of specialized financial reports, such as month- and year-end schedules as needed by management and auditors. 
  • Play a supporting role in the implementation of financial systems upgrades and updates.
  • Perform a wide variety of accounts payable duties. 
  • Collect data in preparation for and assist with routine and ad hoc audits.
  • Provide support to special projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Competency Summary

  • Knowledge of general accepted accounting principles and general ledger procedures.
  • Ability to accurately complete all monthly and quarterly federal report requirements in compliance with governing, award, and contractual mandates including but not limited to Federal A133 Audit Requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to compile, analyze, and determine recommendations based on project data and information.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to interact with a wide variety of people using diplomacy, tact, and discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform successfully in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to use computer technology to efficiently accomplish work using Microsoft Office programs, email, internet, and database management software.
  • Proficiency in Excel is required.

Work Environment

Work is typically conducted in an office environment.  Ability to work on computer for long periods of time and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some limited (10%) travel required.

 

 

Position Requirements:

 

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

Minimum Experience

A minimum of three years of general accounting experience is required.  Candidates with five or more years of experience may be considered for the Accounting IV classification.  Must have a strong understanding of GAAP, government cost recovery and reporting requirements, OMB Circulars 2 CFR 200 required, and the ability to assist and support others in the application.
