Northwest Center is looking for a cook to join our Early Learning team!  This position requires significant interaction with teachers, kitchen support staff, and administrative team to ensure successful kitchen operation. The Cook is responsible for ordering kitchen and food supply items, keeping records,  maintaining a safe and healthy kitchen environment and ensuring that all USDA and Department of Early Learning regulations are being met.

Essential Functions:                           

  • Prepares breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack as dictated by menu cycle
  • Plans appropriate menu cycles for the food program, ensuring that USDA guidelines are met
  • Provides appropriate substitutions for children with special diets and allergies
  • Orders food items and kitchen supplies, through a variety of vendors, and within the allotted budget amount
  • Works collaboratively with teachers and kitchen support staff
  • Maintains accurate records as stated in Department of Agriculture Food Program contract
  • Follows health and safety protocols outlined by the Public Health Department and the Department of Early Learning.
  • Oversees daily operation of the kitchen, assisting in all areas as needed
Minimum Requirements:
  • A minimum of 2 years cooking experience required
  • Experience cooking for groups of children and working with people with disabilities is also preferred
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced environment
  • Must have or obtain a valid Washington Sate food handler's permit prior to beginning employment
