Position: HR BUSINESS PARTNER    
Experience: 5+ years of experience.     
Minimum Education: BS in HR or similar field or equivalent; HR professional certification desired.    
Compensation Range: $90k - $130k depending upon education, skills, and experience.     
    
Our Team at nLIGHT DEFENSE Systems develops high energy laser weapon systems.  Building effective laser solutions and products for challenging applications requires high-performing engineers and scientist to work together cohesively.  Our HR Team provides the soul of our team, helping to keep our engineering machine running smoothly and working well together.  We are looking to expand our team with an HRBP to help support and partner with our HR Director.  This is an outstanding opportunity for the right candidate that is dedicated and hungry to learn.

Job Description: The HRBP role will serve as initial HR point contact for all employees at the company. Serve as a partner and advisor to management across HR disciplines. Support employment life cycle activities, including talent acquisition, new hire programs, employee development, recognition programs, employee relations, benefits and leave management and ADA requests. Reports to the Director of HR and EHS in Longmont, CO.    
    
Responsibilities:    
  • Collaborate with hiring managers on recruitment strategy and serve as a member of the interview team.
  • Lead HR projects, including process improvements, employee programs and employee engagement initiatives, working with the Corporate HR team as appropriate.
  • Advise and train managers and supervisors in employee relations and engagement practices and strategies.
  • Partner with management to identify and coordinate development opportunities for employees to facilitate their growth.
  • Partner with managers on performance management, including advising on performance reviews and performance improvement plans; provide guidance and direction on corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide guidance, support, and recommendations for the resolution of complex employee relations activities.
  • Respond to employee concerns; conduct internal investigations, while ensuring compliance with applicable Company policy and federal, state, and local statutes.
  • Develop templates and forms for HR requirements and requirements using MS Office tools.  
  
Required Experience / Capability:

  • A minimum of five years of progressive HR experience, with 2 years in-depth experience in employee relations and recruiting.     
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and maintain composure and good working relationships under pressure.    
  • Effective communication and consistent follow-up with employees.    
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, completing work within established timeframes.      
  • Effectively manage schedule and priorities with minimal daily direction to meet mid to long-term schedule objectives.    
  • Proven ability to provide solutions to challenging employee issues and situations, while promoting a productive and positive work environment.     
  • Strong MS Office and Excel skills required, HRIS experience is a must.    
  • Strong experience in developing templates and/or forms using MS Office tools.    
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and procedures.    
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.    
  • Ability to use sound judgement and escalate issues when appropriate.     
  • Ability to establish relationships while maintaining a neutral and unbiased stance.    
  • Demonstrated ability to protect confidential and proprietary information, setting professional boundaries as needed.
