SCHOOL DESCRIPTION  

Kha’p’o Community School (KCS) is a Tribally Controlled Grant school serving the Santa Clara  

Pueblo. KCS serves approximately 150 families prenatal – sixth grade. KCS is a school grounded  

in providing students rigorous, high-quality educational opportunities that are focused on Tewa  

language and interactive, hands-on learning activities. KCS staff support students in their  

physical and emotional growth as well, valuing student identity and promoting and modeling  

high-self esteem and confidence.

Tewa language and culture. They are empowered to bridge the Kha’p’o and non-Native worlds.

community-engaged, academically-challenging and enjoyable educational environment that

POSITION SUMMARY  

The teachers at Kha’p’o Community School are positive believers in the power of excellent and  

relevant educational opportunities for children. They agree that a holistic approach to  

education provides students with the necessary support to succeed in an ever changing and  

complex world. The teachers at KCS prepare and execute high quality lesson plans that meet  

the needs of their students. They also implement researched Response to Intervention  

methods that allow for differentiation within the classroom, meeting students where they are  

at so they can grow as students and Pueblo people. Teachers are also responsible for  

implementing data driven instruction using different forms of assessment to identify student  

need. Teachers are driven by the mission of KCSA, and are committed to the students, parents,  

and community. Elementary teachers report to the Principal.  






Duties and Responsibilities  

Prepare, implement and adjust daily lessons for students  

Ensure alignment of project based, experiential curriculum to school mission and vision  

and appropriate standards  

Collaborate with parents and consistently communicate student progress, include  

participating in Parent/Teacher Conferences and other school events  

Provide a safe and effective learning environment for all students  

Provide direct instruction as well as experiential, project based, and culturally  

responsive opportunities  

Support the school’s mission and vision of a school that supports students academically,  

physically and emotionally, and culturally.  

Analyze student data to identify trends  

Follow the school’s Student Assistance Team (SAT) process to ensure student support  

Use data-driven instruction to capture individual student progress and differentiate  

within the classroom on a daily basis  

Maintain a positive classroom environment with a strong, supportive classroom  

management system  

Be a positive and enthusiastic member of a learning team focused on improving  

teaching techniques  

Think critically and implement ideas incorporating Tewa language into daily lessons  

QUALIFICATIONS  

Education/Licensure  

Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or related field  

New Mexico Elementary Teaching License  

Skill/Mindsets  

Practices, implements and trusts in the process of change in alignment with the mission,  

vision, and values of KCS  

Excellent written and verbal communication skills  

An eagerness to set ambitious and tangible goals and a drive to achieve them  

Commitment to providing experiential, project based learning opportunities for  

students

Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple competing tasks  

Commitment to a holistic approach to education  

Committed to collaborate with staff, community, and families  






A desire to learn and grow individually and open to feedback from instructional leaders

Comfort using new technology in the classroom  

Ability to use Google suite products (Drive, Docs etc.)  

Proficiency in Microsoft suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)  

Experience  

3+ years teaching experience preferred  

Experience working with Native communities
