Executive Producer,  QXR Podcasts

The  Executive Producer of QXR Podcasts will lead an ambitious podcast strategy of musical and culture related content. They are responsible for providing editorial oversight and leadership of multiple creative and production teams, connecting the work with the various internal communication, digital and revenue departments of New York Public Radio, and serving on the leadership team of New York Public Radio’s music and culture group, which includes WQXR, New Sounds, and The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space.  The Executive Producer will supervise a Project Manager who will support this work.

Key Functions:

Develop a pipeline of new shows and content that covers classical music and culture content through 3 strategies:

  • Original programming: shows developed, produced and overseen by WQXR team
  • Organizational Partnerships: shows co-produced by WQXR and a cultural partner (e.g. Carnegie Hall) with expenses, responsibilities and revenues split according to mutual agreement OR shows produced by WQXR for a cultural partner with exclusive sponsorship rights to the cultural partner
  • Licensing and Sponsorship Relationships: shows produced completely by an outside party with WQXR servicing as a sponsorship and marketing partner and a mutually agreed upon revenue share 

Provide editorial and operational oversight:  

  • Source, recruit and manage creative and production teams for all shows in the portfolio
  • Provide executive editorial input to ensure the highest quality and consistency of output, adhering to an explicit set of core programming values
  • Liaise with NYPR internal departments such as digital, audience development, sponsorship and philanthropy to create sustainability of this line of business
  • Supervise a Project Manager who will support editorial and operational work 

Other duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintain an internal pitch process to refine and shape project ideas and initiatives; review and provide editorial feedback on pitches and drafts
  • Present at all-staff meetings, patron events, CAB meetings, and outside podcasting events 
  • Serve as a member of the Music and Culture Management team

Qualifications:

  • 5+ yrs of experience producing high quality podcasts combining storytelling, information and music
  • 3+ years experience building and managing teams
  • A passion for fostering an inclusive, diverse, and innovative team culture 
  • Proven track record of being a strong leader who embodies the mission and values of NYPR
  • Aptitude and enthusiasm for working with creative content makers
  • Business acumen including ability to create and manage budgets
  • Strategic vision for building new audiences and revenues for culture and classical music
  • Strong background in storytelling and narrative audio

Additional Information

This is a full-time role with a salary range of $135,000-$155,000 per year (plus a full benefits package). Salary offer within this range is determined by skills, experience and organizational pay equity. New York Public Radio offers excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance, vacation, personal and sick time as well as parental leave.

This role is currently operating remotely, with the ability to optionally work from the office sometimes, which is encouraged. However, this position is not a permanent remote position and is part of the New York City staff and will be expected to work from the New York office in a hybrid capacity beginning on May 31st.

Given this role will be in the office, being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is required unless NYPR has approved a specific religious or medical exemption in advance of the first day of work. At this time, NYPR defines being fully vaccinated as having received two Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations or one Johnson and Johnson vaccination.
