This is an exciting opportunity to join NBBJ as a Healthcare Strategy Director. As a key member of our Consulting Studio, you will play a pivotal role in defining and executing healthcare strategies for our clients. Your expertise will contribute to the development of our healthcare strategy and service delivery offerings, further solidifying NBBJ's impact and differentiation in the market. Our Consulting Studio is a centerpiece of strategic impact to a design practice. We seek an industry-facing expert who is motivated to nurture client relationships and pursue new opportunities that elevate healthcare experiences for patients, clinicians' staff, and communities. They are eager to be a valued expert in NBBJ’s networked ecosystem of medical planners, designers and healthcare delivery experts who transform healthcare facilities for academic medical centers, national healthcare systems, community hospitals and outpatient providers.

Adept at building long-term strategic relationships, playing a leadership role on projects, and marketing complex projects, this role will work closely with the firm’s Healthcare Practice Leadership team and Marketing Studio to build the practice, identify new opportunities, as well as develop client service strategies to grow the consulting practice business. The ideal candidate for this role can work both collaboratively and independently, is proactive in delivering success, is able to positively influence others — and can thrive in the face of changing and ambiguous conditions. Finally, we expect that this person understands the industry: trends, operations, financial priorities, and resources, and can leverage their experience and perspective to provide relevant services and deliverables to Consulting and Design team clients.

In your new role, you will: 

  • Market Leadership: Grow the consulting studio business. Develop new and existing relationships focused on increasing the use of consulting services. Generate a strong pipeline – leads and prospect to increase reach and influence Provide strategy and content for proposals, interviews to win work in collaboration with the market department and go-to-market teams. Work within the Market Leader community to gain insights and comradery in building the business of NBBJ.
  • Strategic Planning: Utilize your deep understanding of the healthcare industry to advise clients on industry trends, operational efficiencies, financial priorities, and resource allocation. This involves discerning both local and national trends, analyzing competitor dynamics, and engaging key stakeholders in comprehensive planning processes. Area demographic and population analysis. Population health and wellbeing. Suitability Analyses. Market Assessment, including competitive and market share dynamics. Operational strategy and impacts. Aligning resource allocation and service needs. Environmental assessment development. Strategic plan development. Dashboard development to monitor key strategic initiatives. Integration planning.
  • Operational and Functional Planning: Collaborate with clients and teams to develop operational and functional plans that align with strategic objectives. Leverage operational expertise and insight to guide operational design and space programming development, including optimizing workflow efficiency and productivity. Engage in Functional and Space Program development. Contribute to site and facility planning development. Develop future focused planning drivers to contribute to long-term flexibility. 
  • Operational & Financial Planning: Workforce planning and optimization. Provider manpower planning. Operational improvement planning – develop processes to monitor, improve and sustain organizational financial and operational performance
  • Capital Planning: Master Planning, Development of capital project tracker/dashboard, Certificate of Need application development
  • Activation Planning: Partner with organization on development of a project activation plan. Assist in project activation activities
  • Portfolio Analysis: Compare financial, operational and market performance of key organizational programs and services. Business plans and proforma. Analytical Expertise: Develop and implement fact-based analytical planning approaches and methodologies. Project future inpatient and outpatient service distribution, volumes, and related facility responses. Assess key risks and identify mitigation opportunities.
  • Project Management: Lead project efforts, including scoping projects, designing solutions and overseeing implementation. Manage resources effectively to ensure timely project completion while maintaining high quality standards. Use Process Design to streamline resources and work needs. Manage and mitigate risks

  • Industry Engagement and Thought Leadership: Leverage your industry connections and expertise to position NBBJ as a thought leader in healthcare strategy. Actively participate in industry events, conferences, and forums. Contribute to marketing efforts by sharing insights and best practices through publications, webinars, and social media channels

What you will need to succeed:

  • Consulting experience, business acumen, and leadership skills. Healthcare consulting experience required.
  • Effective leadership with the C-Suite.
  • Results oriented, with the ability to lead through collaboration and inspiration.
  • Experience in scaling a sustainable business through strategy, execution, and growth.
  • Demonstrated + proactive experience leading, motivating and developing teams, internally and externally.
  • A steward leader who can thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment, is able to self-direct and manage through ambiguity.
The annual base pay range for this role is anticipated to be between $110,000 and $150,000. Actual compensation for successful candidates will be carefully determined based on a number of factors, including their skills, qualifications and experience.
