Reporting into the QA Director, you’ll be driving the process improvements that you deem to be required to pull QA in line with the overall company strategy and to deliver amazing service to all of our game teams. You will identify and implement whatever is necessary to ensure our QA team and processes are the best in the industry, with full reign to challenge what’s in place today. As a seasoned manager, you know that empowering the people you work with is the best way to get a team to deliver to the best of their abilities. 

Your Deliverables

By End of Month 1:

  • Taken stock of all current processes with the QA team to assess what’s working and what needs improvement
  • Working with production, product management and discipline leads to understand their needs to ensure your solutions are the right ones for everyone
  • Worked with the development teams to deliver high-quality QA support in an Agile environment

By End of Month 3:

  • Formulated a long-term QA strategy to ensure increased efficiency and effectiveness of the team, assessing internal and external resource needs
  • Developed an automated testing proposal
  • Derived and owned the short-term and long-term resourcing plans across all projects, including internal and outsourced teams
  • Introduced standardisation across teams where necessary including team-level and company-level QA reports, providing templates and support
  • Started implementing the required changes identified in the QA strategy, getting buy-in from stakeholders and the existing QA team members
  • Developed team-level and company-level QA reports and provide templates and support

And Beyond:

  • Champion the QA team and discipline, ensuring QA adds significant value to the game development cycle and partners well with development
  • Maintain an extremely high level of service and be able to demonstrate customer satisfaction that is proven through metrics
  • Ensure the team has opportunities to develop within the company and actively encourage self-education
  • Build trust within the discipline and with stakeholders across the business

Experience and Approach Required

  • Passionate about QA, getting things done and making things better
  • Establish and evolve formal QA processes, ensuring that the team is using industry-accepted best practices
  • Experience of managing multiple QA teams in Agile Environment
  • Oversee all aspects of quality assurance including establishing metrics, applying industry best practices, and developing new tools and processes to ensure quality goals are met
  • Act as key point of contact for all QA aspects of releases, providing QA services and coordinating QA resources internally and externally
  • Lead and mentor QA team members, as well as manage vendors
  • Help the team to improve test process and automation in agile environment
  • Coach and mentor team for best test practices
  • Be a leader in ensuring the team collectively take responsibility for fixing failed tests and issues with the CI/CD infrastructure
  • Ensure that the team have the right level of test coverage for the product, functional and non-functional tests
  • Managed QA teams for at least 5 years, with two of those at a senior level, with a proven track record in successfully developing multiple teams
  • Excellent presentation skills, able to make QA processes accessible to everyone from testers to senior management to development teams
  • Very strong interpersonal skills, resolving conflicts, getting the best out of your team and supporting individuals with career guidance and feedback regularly
  • Technical understanding of how a game is built including an awareness of code languages used
  • Strong knowledge of Agile processes and tools, e.g JIRA or Confluence
