Job Duties
Clinical Competency
Possesses the knowledge and clinical skills required to deliver quality patient care.
Performs clinical skills per hospital or clinic policies/procedures.
Assists with medication refills and patient requests.
Uses clinic equipment appropriately.
Reports concerns regarding patient status or test results to physician.
Departmental Responsibilities
Follows hospital and departmental rules and regulations by adhering to policies/procedures such as confidentiality, code of conduct, attendance and payroll policies.
Maintains a safe and clean patient care area. Uses work time productively.
Attends staff meetings.
Eliminates the words, It’s not my job.
Clean and stock exam rooms, requests needed supplies, rotates stock, marks facility charge sheets, works collaborating with other team members.
Patient Education
Participates in providing information related to health prevention, health maintenance, and health restoration.
Considers patient cultural/religious practices, learning needs, emotional barriers, physical and cognitive limitations, language and level of understanding, Documents education provided and patient response.
Refers patients to available educational programs as available.
Performance Improvement
Works with co-workers to assure departmental compliance with Joint Commission andother regulatory requirements.
Provides input into performance improvement activities to assist department in efforts to improve departmental processes.
Is receptive to change and growth. Meets deadlines in a timely manner.
Educational Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent
Graduate of a Medical Assistant program.
Licensure/Certification
Must possess a current Medical Assistant School Certificate.
Current certification in BLS.
Experience/Knowledge
Knowledge of hospital and department Mission, Vision and Values as well as policies and procedures, patient care procedures and the ability to operate technical equipment as acquired through orientation. The Medial Assistant, working in a staff nurse position, utilizes the nursing process to deliver nursing care to an individual or group of patients and accepts assigned responsibilities as an accountable member of the health care team. Knowledgeable of computer functions as trained on the job for HPF, PHS, STAR and McKesson Care Manager.
