Credentialing and Privileging Specialist, Full-Time job, Physician Services

Nashville General Hospital is hiring a Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist for Physician Services as a full time job in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of the privileging (initial appointment) and reappointment process for all privileged medical providers who provide patient care at Nashville General Hospital. This position is responsible for maintaining up-to-date data for each provider in privileging databases and online systems, ensuring timely renewal of licenses, malpractice, and other required documentation.  This may be done through a combination of manual and automated practices.   May have responsibility for record-keeping for Medical Staff Committees.  This position will also be responsible for other Medical Staff Office duties as assigned by the Director.

Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Compiles and maintains current and accurate data for all Medical Staff and Allied Health members.
  • Processes provider credentialing and re-credentialing applications; monitors applications and follows up as needed, either manually or using credentialing software.
  • Will be responsible for the credentialing of fellows and the setup of other clinical students that rotate through Nashville General Hospital
  • Develop and maintain a good rapport with the Chief of service, members of the Medical Staff, and affiliates
  • Responsible for FPPE and OPPE data in relation to credentialing requirements
  • Monitors expirable documents ensuring each is current for all Medical Staff and Allied Health Professionals, e.g., state licenses, DEA certificates, malpractice coverage, board certifications and other required credentialing documents.
  • Maintain provider information in online credentialing databases and systems.
  • Maintains appointment files and information in the credentialing database.
  • Responds to external queries for verification of hospital affiliation.
  • Supports medical staff committees by attending, taking minutes, and scheduling activities of the committees.
  • Perform NPDB queries and maintains continuous query enrollments.
  • Assists in coordination of events, meetings, and other activities hosted by the Medical Staff Services as requested.
  • Will serve as a backup for payer enrollment task if needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of provider information.
  • Answer the telephone and take accurate messages.

Skills

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of the Medical Staff and Allied Health Professional credentialing process for hospitals.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to research and analyze data.
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships with providers, management, staff, and contacts within and outside the organization.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.


Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years of hospital credentialing and privileging experience required.
  • 3-5 years' experience in credentialing medical staff and allied health professionals and providing support to medical staff Committees.
  • Certification by NAMSS is desirable. If not certified upon hire, must successfully become certified as soon as qualified.
