Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive assessments of patients with gastrointestinal conditions, including medical history reviews and physical examinations.
- Diagnose, develop, and implement treatment plans for various GI disorders, such as GERD, IBS, IBD, liver disease, and other digestive system-related issues.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests, including lab work, imaging, and endoscopic procedures.
- Collaborate with gastroenterologists and multidisciplinary teams to create and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Prescribe medications and recommend appropriate therapies, including dietary and lifestyle modifications.
- Provide patient education regarding disease processes, medications, procedures, and preventive care.
- Assist in performing and/or coordinating pre- and post-procedure care for endoscopic procedures.
- Conduct follow-up evaluations to monitor the effectiveness of treatments and make necessary adjustments.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care in electronic health records (EHR).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and professional development activities related to gastroenterology.
- Support and guide other clinical staff in GI-related practices.
Qualifications:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited program. Physician Assistant must have graduated from an accredited PA program.
- Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant license in TN.
- Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
- Gastroenterology experience required.
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in EHR systems and ability to manage patient records effectively.
