Description

The OR Charge Nurse will provide oversite of the daily operational flow of perioperative services. Managing and coordinating operating patient schedule, managing staff assignments, and communicating effectively across the continuum i.e., customers, physician, anesthesia, ancillary departmental staff, co-workers, to provide quality coordinated patient care. Must be able to work in a complexed environment. Serves as a resource for perioperative staff. Participate in improvement processes planning for the perioperative department

Additional education requirements

Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

BLS Required
ACLS Preferred
Additional Certification & Licensures details
Active license as a Registered Nurse to practice in the state of Tennessee. Must have current certification in Basic Life Support. BSN and ACLS preferred.

Additional experience requirements

Five (5) years OR experience required and possess strong negotiation skills and flexibility.


Provides Direct, Competent, Compassionate Patient Care

Provides direct nursing care to patients undergoing minor to major surgical procedures requiring surgical/medical treatment, using a problem solving approach and in accordance with the standards, guidelines and scope of professional nursing practice individualized nursing care to patients is facilitated when undergoing surgical procedures.

Assess, plan, implement, document and evaluate care to ensure a coordinated holistic approach which best meets the needs of the patient.

Assist surgeons during surgical procedures to ensure that patients achieve their optimum level of health and well-being.

Promote the autonomy of patients and help them to express their health needs and values to obtain appropriate information and services

Act in a manner consistent with their professional code of ethics, responsibilities and standards of practice.

Ensure that supplies for safe, efficient nursing of the OR are available as needed

Coordinates PACU/ SDS/ENDO/PAT Operations

Leadership

Identifies appropriate communication, and coordination to ensure smooth processes within the Operating Rooms, supporting Anesthesia team, Surgeons, Scheduler and Ancillary units

Implements and monitors compliance to patient care and professional standards established by the department of nursing, state law and regulatory agencies

Provides leadership, motivation and clinical expertise in the management and coordination of surgical services to provide quality patient care

Develops and maintains effective relationships with hospital departments providing support services.

Monitors services provided and collaborates in developing methods to improve utilization and efficiency

Personnel

Maintains nursing staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

Maintains nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.

Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care; enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations; measuring health outcomes against standards; making or recommending adjustments.

Maintains nursing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training nurses and auxiliary staff.
