Nashville General Hospital is hiring a Director of Medical Staff Services for Physician Services as a full time job in Nashville, Tennessee.    

Shift: Day Shift 

The Director of Medical Staff Services provides leadership oversight to the Medical Staff office and serves as a resource to and support to hospital leadership. Serves as a leading expert in promoting/maintaining positive and collaborative rapport and effective communications between the Medical Staff, Administration, and Nashville General Organization. Monitors compliance with regulatory agencies standards, and Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and regulations. Assures the efficient operation of Medical Staff Services including continuing medical education, institutional review functions, and provider/payor credentialing. Researches, develops and implements necessary systems addressing Medical Staff and organization needs.   

Director of Medical Staff Services Roles & Responsibilities:   

  • Oversee all aspects of Provider Credentialing and Payer Enrollment hospital wide.
  • Oversee the team responsible for credentialing, and payer enrollment functions.
  • Develops and maintains teamwork essential for the effective and efficient operation of the department; organizes and manages workflow through supervision of staff.
  • Ensure timely and efficient credentialing and privileging of all hospital Medical Staff, SPPE staff, and other Medical Staff Categories
  • Ensures Medical Staff Services and the credentialing program follows Medical Staff standards, The Joint Commission, legal, and all regulatory and accrediting agency standards. Interprets, explains, and follows all regulatory guidelines, including medical staff bylaws, fair hearing plan, rules and regulations and policies.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external leaders to ensure accurate information sharing, appropriate communication of any issues, and pertinent information for decision-making purposes.
  • Oversees the implementation of new resident orientation, continuing education programs for Medical Staff, and other activities of the medical staff.
  • Coordinates with quality department to ensure facilitation of both Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE).
  • In coordination with risk manager, ensures timely and proper notification regarding any probable claims involving peer reviewed cases.
  • Develop and maintain reports on required Medical Staff functions.
  • Oversee processes that maintain up-to-date data for each provider in credentialing databases and online systems; ensure timely renewal of licenses and certifications.
  • Oversee the maintenance of current copies of state licenses, DEA certifications, malpractice coverage, board certifications, and other required credentialing documents for all providers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of provider information.
  • Oversee the flow of information between the payers, contracted MSO, IPO, and other networks, and NGH.
  • Apply principles of continuous quality improvement in the delivery of services, through assessment and monitoring of medical staff services department, processes, and systems; analyzes trends and implement change as required.
  • Works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team approach to ensure physician concerns are addressed through established medical staff processes. 

Job Requirements and Qualifications:
  

  • Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant credentialing experience in a hospital, clinic, physician group, behavioral health, and/or healthcare system settings.
  • Minimum of 3 years of previous management/supervisory experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPCS or CPMSM certification preferred. 
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the healthcare industry and legal and regulatory requirements.
