Occupational Therapist Assistant - Pool
Description
General Duties
- Effectively communicates charge information to secretary or designated charge entry personnel
- Assists secretarial staff as requested by PT Director
- Assists with restocking and cleaning as requested by therapists
- Answers telephone and greets patients as requested by Director
Monitors patient responses to treatment
- Monitors patient progress and implements changes to treatment plan as directed by therapist
- Advises therapist of any adverse responses to therapy
- Involves therapist in outpatient therapy updates every 14 days or sooner
- Documents in patient's progress notes in chart regarding assessment, plan, treatment, instruction, evaluation and recommendations
Provides patient and family instruction
- Explains treatment methods to patients and patient's significant others as necessary
- Directs patients in the use and care of assistive devices, exercise, and other special equipment
- Contacts Social Services for assistance needed (ie. securing equipment, home health, etc) as directed by therapist
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate with patients/patients' significant other and interpret verbal/nonverbal behavior
- Attends multidisciplinary discharge planning rounds as assigned and shares information with appropriate co-workers
Reassessment and Planning
- Reassesses appropriate objective measures each treatment
- Addresses progress toward goals each treatment
- Discusses changes in patient condition with therapist as appropriate
- Involves patient and/or patient's significant other in the therapy treatments
- Discusses changes in treatment plan and goals with therapist as appropriate
- Addresses discharge needs as identified by the therapist
- Communicates with other disciplines as requested by supervising therapist
- Effectively coordinates outpatient scheduling with secretarial staff
- Keeps therapists advised of changes in patient scheduling
Treatments
- Correctly utilizes therapeutic modalities as certified and deemed appropriate (i.e. heat, cold, light, sound, traction, massage, therapeutic exercises, and other rehabilitative procedures).
- Effectively supervises technicians
- Ensures the safety of patients at all times
- Informs and involves the supervising therapist as needed
- Informs and involves the Physical Therapy Director as needed
- Supervises treatments provided by occupational therapist assistant students as requested by therapist
- Demonstrates ability to care for an allotted number patients within a designated time frame
Education:
Preferred Associate’s Degree (or higher) in Occupational Therapist Assistant from an accredited school.
Experience/Licensure:
Minimum 1 year of experience
Active license (or eligible) as an occupational therapist assistant in the state of Tennessee.
