DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for preparing and monitoring the departmental (business unit) budgets in accordance with the strategic plan and organizational goals.
  • Responsible for preparing annual department budgets.
  • Responsible for monitoring and achieving goals related to staff performance metrics.
  • Participates in strategic planning activities to enhance the donor experience, hospital customer service, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversees procedures in accordance with all applicable blood center SOPs; local, state and federal regulations and accrediting agencies for the safety of donors and the safety and quality of the blood supply.
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate and competent staff to meet departmental needs.
  • Prepares proposals for new positions, evaluates resumes, performs interviews, and hires qualified applicants.
  • Assures appropriate balance of staffing configurations and availability to meet recruitment needs. 
  • Handles conflict management in a professional manner. 
  • Performs appropriate disciplinary actions (up to and including termination) in accordance with departmental and HR policies.
  • Assures timely and adequate communications within individual departments and between departments.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership behaviors.
  • Encourages a culture of open and constructive communication.
  • Prepares agenda and leads departmental meetings. 
  • Actively participates in technical and interdepartmental meetings for continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for overseeing that training is completed and monitoring staff performance.
  • Utilizes corporately developed training materials. 
  • Performs internal QA audits. 
  • Assures that retraining is done in accordance with departmental performance standards. 
  • Documents training and monitors training records for trends and completeness. 
  • Reports training status.
  • Responsible for overseeing equipment quality control/maintenance is completed per regulatory and SOP standards.
  • Encourages and personally demonstrates a culture of customer service. Responsible for ensuring that customer service both internal and external is at the highest level.   
  • Builds an effective relationship with our Hospital Partners.
  • Maintains current blood banking knowledge and leadership/management skills through independent analysis and networking.
  • Maintains competency as needed for non-management duties as an operational backup.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.

Experience

  • Three to five years related supervisory experience is required.
  • Three to five years related Blood Banking experience required.
  • Hospital Blood banking experience preferred.
    • Medical Technologist ( MT ASCP) Certification
    • SBB certification

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to do more complex addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Ability to calculate figures, such as rate, ratio, percentage, interest and apply basic concepts of algebra.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
