PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: Mercy Corps helps people turn the crises they confront into the opportunities they deserve. Driven by local needs, our programs provide communities in the world’s toughest places – places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia and Haiti – with the tools and support they need to transform their own lives.

 

Resource Development (RD) staff work in three main areas: 1) raising private funds and cultivating and maintaining relationships with private donors; 2) defining the agency’s brand, raising our public profile and sharing stories about our work by engaging with the media, the public, and our supporters and producing a wide range of online and offline communications; and 3) teaching visitors to our Portland Action Center about issues of global poverty and engaging them in efforts to end it.

 

The RD team includes several dozen dynamic professionals who possess a wide range of skills. We are database managers, web developers, internet marketers and public relations experts. We are writers, designers, photographers and teachers. We are fundraisers with expertise in direct response, online, community, major gift and corporate giving. We are specialists in fundraising analysis, stewardship, prospecting and customer service. Most of all, we are passionate about Mercy Corps’ mission and dedicated to supporting our worldwide team that’s improving the lives of 19 million people in 40 countries.

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Project Officer is responsible for guiding Digital Marketing projects along with assigned web and social projects through the development pipeline, from goals to completion, on time and within budget. Projects could involve the website, email, social media, analytics and other digital components that support fundraising and awareness for the agency. S/he communicates scope and timeline with project stakeholders; drafts project management documentation such as estimates, project plans and schedules; and enforces deadlines across the teams. This position will additionally manage the digital gating process and related project/request timelines. This position will also assist with website updates, social media management and data analytics.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinates and traffics assigned digital projects, including working with internal teams to accurately scope and estimate projects; the creation and maintenance of accurate project schedules, assigning of related tasks, and budget tracking and reporting; and ensuring resources are allocated appropriately to support project execution
  2. Manage social media outlets and website updates as directed
  3. Maintain KPI dashboard and report on campaign success factors
  4. Clearly communicate and maintain project timelines, including milestones, deadlines and deliverables
  5. Work with team leaders to enforce adherence to workflow processes and deadlines
  6. Attend project meetings, take notes, and clearly communicate decisions and action items back to stakeholders
  7. Assemble, update and distribute status reports and project timelines to stakeholders
  8. Document decisions made, next steps, and lessons learned
  9. Improve internal project management processes
  10. Assist with quality assurance as needed
  11. Traffic approvals related to assigned projects between teams and agencies
  12. Other duties as assigned

ACCOUNTABILITY: REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Director of Digital Marketing

WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Digital Fundraising and Marketing Team; creative teams; Dev Ops; other RD and IT teams as needed

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • B.A. or B.S. in a related field
  • At least three years of experience in a project coordination or traffic management role involving online deliverables, or commitment to obtain PMP certification if experience qualifications are not met
  • Experience with social media best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to report metrics
  • Basic familiarity with project management concepts, methodologies and processes
  • Basic familiarity with HTML and some experience using content management systems, with Drupal experience preferred but not required
  • Experience using project-management software preferred
  • Experience managing multiple short- and long-term projects in a fast-paced environment preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage successful projects in a multi-team environment preferred

LIVING /ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: This position is based in Portland, Oregon. Some evenings/weekends required during emergency responses.  Mercy Corps Team members represent the agency both during and outside of work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit/TDY to a field posting. Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
