Pharmacy Manager, Inpatient
Description
Directs and coordinates day-to-day operations of a designated area of Pharmacy to meet the pharmaceutical needs of the patients and works collaboratively with the Director of Pharmacy, supervisors, and lead positions for the administration of the department.
Strong knowledge of pharmacy drug distribution systems, financial management, supply chain inventory control systems, drug information system, quality assurance methods, regulatory requirements and pharmacy practice standards. Ensures pharmacy compliance with all regulatory compliance standard with support from Asst Manager and Clinical Coordinators.
Provides direct leadership to Pharmacists using a servant leadership style \u2013 invested in the success and growth of each member of their team. Develops and implements a shared governance model within Pharmacy.
Will be accountable for alignment of pharmacist practice model to support MHM Priority Strategic Aim
Able to collate abstract data and information from multiple sources to identify improvement opportunities within the medication use system. Will have to prioritize pharmacy initiatives, make prompt informed decision, and follow-up with key stakeholders as needed.
Works collaboratively with clinical/nursing leadership, physician leadership, and pharmacy personnel to implement programs and systems in support of Mercy Health strategic initiatives.
Supports Institutional PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and collaborative agreements with graduate pharmacy programs.
What you will need: Education
Minimum: Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD.
Preferred: PharmD and MS or MBA focused on operation management and performance improvement
Credentials/Licensure
Minimum: Registered Pharmacist, Michigan Licensure
Preferred: ASHP Accredited PGY-1 Residency and PGY-2 Pharmacy Administration Residency.
Related Experience
Minimum: Two years of supervisory experience in pharmacy operations; or completion of a PGY-2 Administrative residency. Experience with information systems required.
Preferred: Certifications and experience directly applicable to the particular pharmacy department.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Preferred: Specialized training in personnel management, conflict resolution, negotiations, and contract management.

What you will do:
Fulfills the legal requirements of Michigan Public Act 280 for the Pharmacist In Charge and DEA Power of Attorney for the assigned pharmacy department(s). Where Pharmacy Manager has Pharmacist Supervisors in charge of licensed pharmacies, the Pharmacy Manager assures that each Pharmacist Supervisor fulfills PIC responsibilities. The duties of the PIC include, but are not limited to, the following:
Supervision of all activities of pharmacy employees as they relate to the practice of pharmacy including the purchasing, storage, compounding, repackaging, dispensing, and distribution of drugs and devices to ensure that those activities are performed in compliance with this part and the rules promulgated under this part. Enforcement and oversight of policies and procedures applicable to the employees of the pharmacy for the procurement, storage, compounding, and dispensing of drugs and the communication of information to the patient in relation to drug therapy. Establishment and supervision of the method and manner for storage and safekeeping of pharmaceuticals, including maintenance of security provisions to be used when the pharmacy is closed. Establishment and supervision of the record-keeping system for the purchase, sale, delivery, possession, storage, and safekeeping of drugs and devices. Establishment of policies and procedures for Mercy Health Mercy Health Muskegon, alone or in collaboration with the Pharmacy Director, for individuals who are delegated responsibilities for any of the tasks described in this subsection by the PIC.
- Directs the day-to-day activities in an assigned Pharmacy to assure quality pharmaceutical products and services are delivered to patients.
- Assures that staff follow proper procedures to assure patients receive the correct drug therapy at the proper time and that appropriate legal records and requirements are maintained.
- Develops, writes, revises and implements departmental policies, procedures and protocols.
- Communicates and collaborates with staff, management, various departments within Mercy Health Muskegon and outside professionals such as customers, representatives and community pharmacists.
- Interviews vendor representatives for product availability and information.
- Interviews, selects and hires, evaluates, and grants merit increases relating to subordinate performance. Schedules or delegates scheduling of technicians and pharmacists. Makes recommendations regarding wages, and/or terminations of subordinates. Performs or assists supervisors with first line coaching, counseling, and discipline of pharmacists and technicians.
- Provides input to the Director for the ongoing program development, budget, activities and functions, such as procurement and inventory control, data processing and distributive systems. Responsible for execution of plans to achieve the identified and assigned department goals and objectives.
- Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.
- Provides pharmacists and other departmental personnel with formal and informal education experiences. Sees that department personnel have access to education and reference materials so as to remain current with pharmacy professionalism.
- Assures efficient departmental operation by controlling and evaluating allocated financial resources, advancing various dispensing programs and improving productivity and quality. Assists with budget development.
- Ensures that the pharmacy computer system is constantly reviewed/revised to meet the needs of the department, medical staff, patients and employees.
- Plans, implements and maintains dispensing systems for the department. Coordinates all deliveries by internal and contract drivers to meet the needs of customers while controlling costs effectively.
- Stays abreast with developments in specialty area to ensure services provided are progressive and meet the needs of the patients.
- Promotes teamwork by keeping others informed, participating effectively in group decision making, working to accomplish team objectives and projects, and by soliciting feedback about one's effectiveness as a team member.
- Continually improves processes by seeking ways to eliminate and reduce waste and improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
- Seeks new business opportunities, works with potential clients, negotiates service agreements, and recommends approval of service agreements to D.O.P.
- Evaluates and accepts or rejects agreements with third party payors.
