McClatchy is hiring an Internal Operational Audit Senior to assist in planning, supervising, and performing operational audits in a systematic review of effectiveness, efficiency and economy of operations through the business units. This position will work strategically with regional and corporate management to also perform special reviews, consultations, research projects or other tasks as directed. The Internal Operational Audit Manager is responsible for developing an annual review plan along with coordinating with operational teams assigned to assist in the accumulation and review of a department or business process.

  • Oversee planning, scheduling, performance of operational audits to ensure fiscal soundness of individual business operations within the company in conjunction with the Internal Audit Manager and Director.
  • Maintain strong analytical skills while analyzing large amounts of data obtained for evidence of duplication of effort, extravagance, fraud, or lack of compliance with management's established policies or procedures.
  • Identify best practices in control design and operational effectiveness, and develop cost-effective recommendations / solutions.
  • Participate in extensive interviews and develop key field surveys and questionnaires for business unit CFOs and/or staff.
  • Engage in dialogue with management and communicate with unit personnel regarding policies and procedures.
  • This position does not have any direct or indirect reports but will require the ability to coordinate and supervise ad hoc teams from different departments and functions within the Company.
  • Ability to prepare fieldwork findings and recommendations for final presentation to executive management.
  • Develop audit programs for each specific operational review.
  • Ability to create and/or review flowcharts of key business operational processes

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, finance, information technology, or related field.
  • 5 years experience' with accounting, auditing, or investigative analysis.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with successful teams.
  • Intermediate computer skills with knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Ability to work independently and produce a finished product with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform detailed reviews of data reports and research analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) with people at all levels of the organization and produce clear and concise reports and presentations.
  • Demonstrate organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to supervise effectively and work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively escalate issues to senior management and director when appropriate.
  • Flexibility to travel 15-20% annually to locations within the United States, according to specific audit schedule including weekends and holidays 
  • Advanced business degree or related-certification a plus.
  • Project leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Strong analytical and interview skills/experience.
  • PeopleSoft knowledge a plus.
  • Effectively handle situations where short notice is given in advance of travel and to work hours beyond a normal work week.
