McClatchy is hiring a Digital Revenue Accounting Manager to be the key strategic partner and finance liaison for McClatchy’s growing digital advertising agency. This is an opportunity to drive decisions and provide guidance to management on new products, programs, etc., while ensuring compliance with policies and adhering to US GAAP. This position will have a dual reporting responsibility to the Corporate Controller and the Director of Digital Revenue Development, and will work collaboratively with the Digital Agency Head and personnel.

The ideal candidate:

  • Is a strong technical revenue accountant
  • Is proficient at managing day-to-day accounting operations
  • Is proficient at identifying technical accounting issues
  • A self-starter and strategically–minded
  • Has a deep understanding of business strategy, business processes and reporting needs

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and controls by utilizing hands-on accounting and business experience, having an in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and working closely with business partners
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of digital revenues
  • Development/renewal of policies and procedures related to digital revenues
  • Assist with financial analysis as well as ensure appropriate accounting for new business models and significant contracts
  • Recommend best practices to standardize review processes and create efficiencies
  • Manage and develop a team of accountants
  • Prepare annual budgets for the digital agency and the digital accounting department
  • Other duties and special projects as they arise

Qualifications:

      Required:
  • 6 years of revenue recognition experience in a corporate environment
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition US GAAP (ASC 606)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Knowledgeable of revenue recognition rules as it relates to a digital environment
  • Exceptional complex problem solving skills and the ability to analyze complex transactions to identify related business and accounting implications
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
  • The ability to write technical accounting position and policy documents
  • Must have a superior sense of ethics
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be an effective time manager
  • Ability to effectively work independently and with non-finance team members
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

       Preferred:
  • Revenue recognition experience with a Big 4 or other public accounting firm
  • Media or Technology industry experience
  • CPA
