County and development reporter

Editorial Myrtle Beach, SC

The Sun News and is looking for its next reporter who can dive into the Grand Strand community, build sources and tell stories that connect with our audiences in innovative ways. This is a great beach town and an even better news town.

As one of the fastest growing markets in the country, the county and development reporter will focus on what growth means for the people who live and visit here — the good, the bad, and all the pancake houses. In addition to being a watchdog reporter covering county government, the right candidate also will focus on retail and infrastructure development.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, audience-focused journalist who is ready to join a team focused on breaking news and enterprise storytelling.

Our readers are passionate about their elected officials, alligators, crime, sea turtles and food, not necessarily in that order.

Myrtle Beach is, obviously, right on the beach, with 60 miles of beautiful coast along the Grand Strand. The area offers plenty of opportunities to get outside and explore with world-class golfing, fishing and lounging in the sun.

The right candidate will possess:

  • At least one year of experience in journalism
  • Familiarity and ability to build an audience on his/her social media channels
  • Skills of a true multimedia reporter who can file stories, tweets, photos and videos from the field
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and possess a true bulldog mentality when it comes to exclusive stories
  • Strong desire to understand and get to know the Grand Strand community
