McClatchy is seeking a dynamic executive to lead the award-winning Idaho Statesman as it completes it transition into the digital future. Nestled in the Treasure Valley where the desert meets the Rocky Mountains, Boise is one of the country's most likable and livable areas. The location and mild climate encourage a wide variety of outdoor recreation opportunities all within a short distance of downtown. Whether readers are tapping a keyboard, watching a video or combing through the newspaper, the Idaho Statesman connects them to what is happening in their community and the world.

Responsibilities:

The publisher role requires extensive knowledge of and experience with digital and print medias. This individual must be committed to providing excellent investigative and watchdog journalism, connecting with our audience where ever they are, and extending the reach on emerging platforms. The right candidate must also be strategic, innovative and have a proven track record of digital revenue generation, audience growth and managing budget performance. This individual must be comfortable in and embrace a highly visible role in the community. This fast paced and evolving business requires someone with high energy, the ability to adapt quickly to changing business dynamics and communicate business strategies effectively with all levels of the organization.

Interested candidates must:

  • Have excellent communication, analytical, marketing and leadership skills;
  • Have solid financial acumen;
  • Be innovative and agile in responding to changing industry needs, including developing new programs for readers and advertisers and identifying efficiencies and areas for change in response to changing business models;
  • Have an appreciation for the community and our role in it.

Minimum qualifications:

  • At least 10 – 15 years in the newspaper/digital industry, with at least 8 of those years in management
  • A degree in business, journalism, finance or a related field;
  • An equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience.
