Editorial Merced, CA

Position at Merced Sun Star

The Merced Sun-Star, a McClatchy daily newspaper in California’s San Joaquin Valley, is looking for an ambitious and talented reporter to join its award-winning newsroom.

The successful applicant will join a team of dedicated multimedia journalists who tell compelling stories and make an impact -- on the web, on mobile devices and in print.

Merced is a newsy city in a county of more than 200,000 people in the state’s agricultural heartland. The coverage area offers an abundance of meaty storylines -- environment, government incompetence, education, poverty, growth. It’s a rich tableau for an enterprising journalist who wants to leave a mark.

In recent years, reporting by the Sun-Star has righted wrongs and garnered awards, including the coveted General Excellence award in the most recent state competition.

The ideal candidate derives motivation from great work. If you’re looking for big city life, this may not be the job for you -- but do realize Merced is less than a two hour drive from San Francisco and Yosemite National Park.

Applicants with experience are preferred, but recent college graduates who have professional internship or college newspaper experience are encouraged to apply. Must have an acceptable driving record, proof of insurance and dependable transportation.
