Description

Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication. Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation.  Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users. May document engineering processes and specifications. Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements. Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.
 

Responsbilities:

  • Write equipment installation, operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Create and/or edit basic illustrations for manuals.
  • Gather information for manuals by interviewing subject matter experts, attending product training classes, and obtaining direct experience with the equipment and/or reviewing engineering documents provided by design engineers.
  • Edit the work of other writers for clarity and completeness.
  • Edit Technical Bulletins, Field Alerts and Customer Alerts for other groups within the company and distribute approved Technical Bulletins, Field Alerts and Customer Alerts.
  • Create electronic files in PDF and/or HTML for use on CDROM or the internet by Mattson Technology’s customers.
  • Work includes, but is not limited to, the above tasks and any other tasks required by the department supervisor or the management of Mattson Technology. 
 Experience Required: 
  • 5+ years or more experience in a Technical Writer position writing user documentation on complex equipment. 
Skills Required: 

This position requires strong experience in Technical Writing software applications such as Adobe Frame Maker and Microsoft Word.  The Technical Writer III must be able to demonstrate the ability to modify templates for use in writing consistent technical documentation.  A medium level of skill is required to use illustration program such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop or Micrografx Designer.  A good working knowledge of programs to construct electronic documentation is required such as creating Adobe PDF files or HTML files for use on CDROMs and the internet. Skills in using digital camera and making GUI screen captures is needed. Experience with Autodesk ACAD or AutoCAD Lite is a plus. Responsible for end-user documentation, including editing of own work and peer-editing of others work, when required. The technical writer gathers technical details from functional technicians and other procedures, and engineering specifications, to obtain required technical information. Other technical information is gathered from SMEs (subject matter experts; technicians and/or engineers). The writer adds self-created line drawings, photos (jpeg), and manipulates engineering drawings for use, as needed, to add clarity to written text.  Documents will also be prepared and converted for electronic documentation (PDF and/or HTML). Must have a demonstrated ability to write complex service and operating procedures.  Both hardware and software experience is required.  Writing and review of highly technical documentation, such as Tool Schematics and Parts Guides are required.
