Director of Business Operations
As a key member of the Mattson team, the Director of Business Operations will lead the Demand Planning and Inventory management for Mattson’s systems products. This role will lead supply chain initiatives from concept to implementation in support of Mattson’s business objectives in this area; including quality/reliability initiatives and cost reduction efforts.



The Director of Business Operations is expected to provide thought leadership in processes by understanding the capabilities and alternatives available to solve complex demand and supply issues. The person filling this role requires high-caliber interpersonal skills and will deliver executive-level presentations. Experience leading/influencing cross-functional project teams and driving change across all nodes in the supply chain is a must. The Director of Business Operations Planning reports directly to the Sr. Vice President of Operations.


Required Education and Experience

  • 10-15+ years experience in manufacturing/operations with progressive growth.
  • 5+ years operations management experience with medium to large size medical device manufacturing organization.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office products and ERP systems, preferably SAP and Agile.
  • Working knowledge of material pull systems and other lean based material handling principles.
  • Detailed understanding of material planning, factory scheduling and supply planning.
  • Strong capability in building consensus across varying functions and clarifying alignment toward designated business strategies.
  • Proven ability to lead a high performance team to consistently achieve stretch goals and objectives.
  • Ability to direct and develop employees to have a commitment to high standards of quality and performance. Successful track record with retaining key, high potential staff and recruiting new talent to scale with business demands.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Select, manage, and develop functional managers and supporting staff across a global operations organization to meet current and future business requirements across a broad range of supply chain related disciplines.
  • Develop, build consensus for and execute strategic sourcing decisions to benefit the company 2+ years in the future. Includes creation of supply chain strategies.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and prepares reports, records, and directives, and confers with managers/supervisors to obtain data required for manufacturing planning activities, such as new commitments, status of work in progress, and problems encountered. 
  • Partner with NPI team for new products and working with cross-functional team to approve new key suppliers.
  • Partner with Marketing and Sales to ensure the demand consensus process delivers an agreed upon, workable volume forecast (mid and long term); ensuring gaps and overlaps are addressed, scenarios are completed and issues appropriately escalated to meet business objectives.
  • Engages with cross-functional teams to routinely evaluate existing suppliers based on performance and risk, new suppliers for capability and business fit as well as help set criteria for supplier evaluation at a Company level.
  • Develops and maintains department operating procedures and business systems to maintain compliance and future scalability to meet long term Company needs.
  • Develops, communicates and drives execution of goals to meet operational priorities and plans as related to supply chain operations.

Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:

  • Successful completion of required Safety training.
  • Ensure equipment and machines are maintained in safe operating condition.
  • Report to the Safety Officer any unsafe or unhealthy condition which cannot be corrected.
  • Follow all safety and health regulations and work practices, including personal protective equipment where applicable.
