Director Data Services

This is a senior management level position reporting directly to the Managing Partner of the MDI business unit.  The individual will be responsible for leading the organizational priorities of MDI including managing the MDI organization:  client service managers, data technicians, and analysts both at MDI or on-site at client facilities.   The position will interface with internal department management including:  field operations, human resources, information technology and finance.

MDI has a number of exciting points of difference as a data analytics and data services provider including having a direct North American field force to gather retail intelligence to provide greater depth of analytic capabilities for brands and retailers; as well as, a unique software, Match eLayout™ that maps and tracks store specific data.

Additionally, as part of North America’s leading Shopper Marketing agency…the Match Marketing Group, MDI has a unique ability to provide differentiation and added value to the other Matchmg business units providing brands and retailers with:  Merchandising, Integrated Marketing, Shopper Marketing, Experiential, Social, Digital and Fulfillment services.

The individual will be actively engaged with the other Matchmg business units providing analytic and data services to their existing businesses; as well as, supporting development of new business.


  • Under the direction of the Managing Partner; understand, communicate, and strategically implement the vision and direction for the MDI business operations.  
  • Evaluate and evolve to best in class,  the operational processes of the MDI business unit
  • Develop MDI personnel and talent including succession planning
  • Manage the daily operations of the MDI team including coordinating the flow of communications and business processes with the MDI management team and hold the team accountable for meeting goals, deadlines and budget requirements. 
  • Facilitate all MDI operations meetings by planning agendas, previewing and critiquing presentations and reports, raising the readiness of presenters, and driving outcomes and follow-up plans.
  • Work with the MMG senior management at all MMG business practices to synchronize the development and implementation of high quality, cost effective data intelligence programs and services for MMG clients.
  • Work directly with clients to develop customized Data analytics and services solutions.
  • Make recommendations on increasing profitability by providing input for forecasting, accruals, results, and reviewing and approving expenses.
  • Collect information from industry benchmarks, best practices, and internal data to evaluate the organization’s overall performance.


Education or training equivalent to

  • 5-7 plus years of business experience including leadership roles in one or more of the following areas: Data Analytics, Data Department Management, Business Analysis
  • Proven experience in managing high visibility projects and programs with major consumer products company and/or retailer
  • Bachelor Degree, and preferably, a Master’s degree in business, analytics, finance, or another relevant area.

Knowledge and skills

  • Experience and current knowledge of the retail consumer products industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in small work groups with staff members and managers having similar and varying experience and priorities.
  • Ability to think strategically and bring vision to the position.
  • Ability to integrate data and information for improved management of operations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain successful working relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • Successful track record as a team player, decision maker, collaborative style, and exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to determine direction, drive results, and make things happen; self-motivated with the ability to positively influence and motivate others and use interactions to teach.
  • Proven project management, conflict resolution, and problem solving/analytical skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast paced, challenging environment.
