JOB TITLE:               MATAplus Bus Operator

HOURLY SALARY:   $15.85 per hour

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, with a Class D driver’s license with an “F” endorsement or a CDL (Class A or B) with a “P” endorsement at time of hire.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   
1. Drive  non-air brake or air-brake equipped vehicles to transport riders with disabilities as well as the elderly in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner on a designated computer-generated route with a defined time schedule.
2. Provide assistance and support in a safe and orderly manner for passenger boarding and deboarding. Must also be proficient with emergency procedures including evacuation of passengers.
3. Must be able to operate platform wheelchair lifts and ramps and be able to secure all common wheelchairs, scooters and other mobility devices as well as assist with securing seat belts and personal items.
4. Operate and communicate via a two-way radio system following FCC regulations.
5. Must communicate regularly with MATAplus Dispatch regarding route deviations, manifest overload, accidents, or passenger incidents. 
6. Notify MATAplus Dispatch of passengers' medical or behavioral problems and vehicle mechanical or electrical trouble.
7. Complete and submit written reports concerning passenger incidents.
8. Operate on-board computer for fare box and responsible for the collection of appropriate fares as well as distributing and collecting passes.
9. Advise passengers of rules and regulations when necessary.
10. Must have a proven record of providing exceptional customer service as well as responsiveness to customer questions and concerns.
11. Must be able to follow communication, route schedule, appearance, etiquette protocol and procedures based on respect for self and others.
12. Must successfully complete all required training including ADA, diversity and sensitivity training, driving skill refreshers and vehicle operation.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITIES:
1. Secure and turn in articles left behind in vehicle.
2. Assume additional responsibilities as required.
3. Must maintain a valid Class D license with an “F” endorsement during the entire course of employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
High school diploma or GED required.

Other:
Must be able to read, write, and speak English.  Must possess a valid   CDL Class A or B with a "P" endorsement or Class D driver's license with an “F” endorsement and have no license suspensions or revocations during the last five years. Knowledge of OrbCad system is preferred. 

Environment:
Requires ability to withstand exposure to changeable outdoor weather conditions, dust, engine fumes, and moderate noise levels. Must be able to tolerate changes in the vehicle environment such as with or without air conditioning and heating.

Physical: Extensive periods of sitting are required along with standing, stooping, bending and walking. Requires ability to perform hand-over-hand method of steering vehicles and to be able to grip a steering wheel. Flexibility of arms, hands and fingers is required to safely operate all non-air brake vehicles, and to secure passengers safely for transport.  In the normal course of the day, may be required to push or pull passengers in wheelchairs, lift or push up to 50 lbs. and reach overhead.  May be required to work within close quarters and limited space.
