JOB TITLE: MATAplus Dispatcher 

DEPARTMENT: MATAplus Administration 

REPORTS TO: Director of Service Delivery 

PAY RATE: $19.23 hourly

JOB POSTING CLOSING DATE: UNTIL FILLED

 

JOB SUMMARY: Dispatches paratransit service through radio contact with MATAplus operators.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Maintain computer-radio communications system by updating computer data as required to provide interface between voice communication and system data.  Performs routine analysis checks between voice and data system to insure proper functioning of entire communication system.
  2. Take critical information and send it to the appropriate staff for action.
  3. Assist Reservationists and Scheduler when necessary.
  4. Advise MATAplus operators, through two-way radio system communication, by providing them with instructions and information regarding scheduling, route changes, etc.
  5. Prepare Trapeze reports and enter data into the computer using Trapeze software. 
  6. Monitor operator manifests and instruct operators on procedures to adjust schedules as needed.
  7. Notify appropriate staff of accidents. Review and enter accident reports in Orbcad.
  8. Train personnel on the radio computer system as required.
  9. Some light filing is required.
  10. Assume additional responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum 3 years’ experience in Transportation is preferred. An equivalent amount of time in Dispatch or Call Center operations may be substituted.

Other:

  1. Preferred working knowledge of existing MATA route system and the street network of the Memphis area. 
  2. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public and have excellent customer service skills and etiquette. 
  3. Experience with computer equipment necessary for data entry and reporting.  Requires the ability to handle numerous activities at one time in a fast-paced environment. 
  4. Ability to understand and interpret labor contract provisions is necessary.
  5. Must be willing to comply with the company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  6. Regular and consistent attendance is required.
  7. Must always comply with safety and COVID protocols.

Environment:

  1. Extensive sitting is required while using office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, or fax machines.
  2. Some standing and walking during a normal workday will also be required as well as bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  3. Most work will be performed in inside working conditions but should be able to tolerate changes  in building environments such as with or without air conditioning or heating; in addition to, withstand exposure to weather conditions, dust, engine, fumes, and extreme noise levels if out on the bus lot. 
  4. Requires ability to hear a telephone and directions given and visually perform essential functions for satisfactory job performance.
  5. May be required occasionally to move up to 20 pounds by lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise repositioning objects.
  6. Fingering and repetitive motions will be required for data entry, while picking items up or while filing.
  7. Able to express or exchange ideas with others accurately and at an easily audible volume throughthe use of spoken words. Able to receive detailed information through oral communication or by phone at usual speaking levels and differentiate between sounds in the environment.
  8. Close visual acuity to perform detail-oriented activities as well as acuity to perform activities at or within arm’s reach with skill, control, and accuracy such as preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen or for significant reading of documents and other materials.
  9. Must be willing to work departmental shifts in an operation that has hours from 4AM – 11PM, 7 days a week, including holidays.
