Description

We are currently seeking a Technical Writer to support Martin Marietta's technical documentation, IS knowledge base management and maintenance, and assorted process documentation development. The role will be within the Information Services department. The ideal candidate will have experience as a technical writer backed by a writing–intensive academic background.

Responsibilities:

  • Support projects and initiatives with technical documentation support for business-facing audiences and end-users, including the development of:
    • New technical process documentation from intake to publishing
    • Job aids and knowledge articles in ServiceNow
    • HTML Knowledge bases in MadCap Flare
    • SCORM Courseware using iSpring for training end users
    • Training collateral and Training Presentations
    • Process flow diagrams in Visio
    • Departmental communications and email announcements on significant development
    • Other types of requests as they arise
  • Manage and maintain the IS Knowledge Base and Documentation Library, including developing content that complies with company standards, templates, style guides, and document review/archive/expiration workflows.
  • Collaborate with the other writer to ensure communication plans and documentation are aligned.
  • Edit a wide range of documentation, including documentation composed by non-writers, to align with established style and tone guidelines.
  • Work with a wide range of subject matter experts with a wide range of background expertise ranging from software development to Human Resources, Payroll, etc.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communications, Communications, or another relevant writing-intensive field. A master’s degree in a relevant field is a plus, but not required.
  • 3+ years of experience as a technical writer or related discipline, preferably within an IS and/or corporate setting and/or equivalent higher education. Experience within a Building Materials company is a plus.
  • Strong writing and editing experience with a keen eye for detail and a track record of producing high-quality, customer-ready technical content by the given deadline.
  • Able to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter to a necessary degree while handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on writing projects. This job will largely be independent due to the small nature of the Tech Writing team.
  • Expert in MS Office Suite (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, etc.).
  • Documentation toolset experience with MadCap Flare, iSpring eLearning Development Suite, Snag-it, Adobe Creative Cloud, ServiceNow Etc. Experience with this toolkit is a plus
  • Experience using HTML and/or XML editing tools to create documentation is a plus
  • Experience with Technical writing and documentation design best practices, writing for reuse and collaborating with a range of Subject Matter Experts.
  • Being self-motivated and organized will be crucial.
