This position is responsible for accurately pricing and estimating work in various market segments including residential, large commercial, small commercial and municipal DOT jobs.  This role is also responsible for supporting successful project management as measured by: 1) zero safety incidents, 2) profitability, 3) contractual commitments, 4) project documentation, 5) project conformance, and 6) project communication.

 

As an Asphalt and Paving Estimator, a typical day might include:

  1. Researching, identifying and executing on new jobs to bid, determining bonding licensing and permitting requirements and identifying risks and opportunities specific to each potential new job.
  2. Soliciting proposals from various subcontractors and assisting in managing them through all phases of the project.
  3. Creating and delivering project estimates that include labor, equipment, materials and subcontractor pricing. Estimates should asses risk considering competitors and market conditions and assigning margin and contract inclusions and exclusions. Estimates should also reflect a clear understanding of specifications and any special plans or considerations.
  4. Reviewing contract documents to ensure all inclusions, exclusions, pricing, and any special requirements are being met prior to execution.
  5. Producing and submitting preconstruction materials ensuring accuracy and completion of all necessary items to start work on a project once the contract has been executed.
  6. Procuring and managing subcontractors and materials, completing quality take offs, and verifying supply quantities.
  7. Completing ERQ’s for materials, subcontractors and DBEs.
  8. Communicating effectively with all internal and external stakeholders; including, but not limited to fellow employees, operations, subcontractors, customers, and onsite personnel.
  9. Overseeing accuracy of all daily tracking requirements, which include complete and accurate reporting using Build2Win, E-Rocks, JD Edwards and excel spreadsheets as well as cost accounting, review, and forecasting including billing, A/R and A/P functions.
  10. Invoicing customers for work completed in a pay period, managing margins on projects, approving subcontractor pay applications, submitting cost to complete on projects each month, and managing all change order work.
  11. Following project start-up and close-out procedures ensuring all regulatory requirements are met, documents are submitted and the project meets all applicable standards.

 

A successful candidate will have:

  1. A High School Diploma;
  2. 3 years of relevant field experience;
  3. Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations or ability to pass required test to acquire
  4. Knowledge of (or ability to learn) CDOT regulations for Highway Paving and Traffic Safety
  5. Knowledge of asphalt, industry related products, and support functions;
  6. Very strong verbal and written communication skills and comfort interacting with a variety of internal and external customers;
  7. Strong computer skills including standard Microsoft Office applications, budgeting software and scheduling software;
  8. The skills and ability to motivate and foster relationships to enhance a cooperative team environment;
  9. The ability to resolve conflicts and job related disputes in a diplomatic and tactful manner;
  10. The ability to managing time, tasks and resources on multiple operations effectively and efficiently;
  11. The ability to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekend hours.

Salary Posting:

The base salary compensation, exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary), will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The posted range for this role represents the total reasonable pay range and does not solely represent a hiring range. Therefore, hiring at the top or maximum of the range should not be expected as it would not allow for salary growth opportunities in the role, would diminish promotion value, and may not align with internal equity.
