Position Summary
 
The Vice President of Operations Services, reporting to the Division President, West and Magnesia Specialties, will be responsible for overseeing the operational strategy and execution of our technical services, operational excellence, and logistics and transportation initiatives across the West Division ensuring efficiency, safety and sustainable growth. This role will prioritize and drive initiatives to optimize production processes, improve cost management, and drive innovation across the organization while maintaining compliance with industry regulations. This role will work closely with senior leadership to align operational goals and key performance indicators with the division’s strategic objective, strategic imperatives, and key areas of focus.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Primary responsibility is to lead the West Division’s Operational Excellence, Technical Services, and Logistics and Transportation departments.
  • Drive initiatives that promote continuous improvement across all sites, utilizing divisional data analysis and key performance indicators to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness.
  • Oversee and provide strategic solutions for capital budget execution, major capital projects, mobile fleet strategy, operational excellence, and innovation initiatives, ensuring alignment with profitability goals.
  • Develop forecasts, expense, and capital budgets, and analyze monthly variances. Provide strategic guidance to senior management to shape short- and long-term operational goals and objectives.
  • Oversee and lead the logistics and transportation resources, fostering collaboration among sales, operations, vendors, and logistics personnel. Enhance product movement stability through exceptional customer service and innovative technological solutions.  
  • Ensure that Technical Services meet business objectives, maintaining compliance with specifications and utilizing best practices for quality and mix design optimization. Collaborate closely with operations, sales, and the Quality team to achieve quality objectives.
  • Ensure the effective allocation of resources within Technical Services and Logistics and Transportation, to support the division’s business needs.
  • Promote a collaborative and results-driven culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Perform all activities in accordance with Martin Marietta’s Mission, Vision and Values, and in compliance with the company’s policies, procedures, and Code of Ethical Business Conduct.
 
Minimum Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management, mining, or a related field. An MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive leadership experience in mining, aggregates, or a related heavy industry, with a strong background in operations management.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale production or manufacturing operations, preferably across multiple sites.
  • 7+ years’ experience in financial reporting, budgeting and planning
  • Preferred - Experience with automation, digital transformation, or innovation projects within the mining or manufacturing industries.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of aggregate production processes, equipment maintenance, and operational efficiency tools.
  • In-depth understanding of mining regulations and safety standards.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with a proven ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to drive strategic initiatives and adapt to changing market conditions.
  • Ability to travel up to 35%

Salary Posting:

The base salary compensation, exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary), will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The posted range for this role represents the total reasonable pay range and does not solely represent a hiring range. Therefore, hiring at the top or maximum of the range should not be expected as it would not allow for salary growth opportunities in the role, would diminish promotion value, and may not align with internal equity.
