Staff Environmental Engineer
The Staff Environmental Engineer will primarily be responsible for managing various types of environmental projects including the remediation of petroleum, chlorinated solvents, and metals. The position will require some field work to complete soil, groundwater and soil gas sampling and to completed operation and maintenance of remediation systems. Task may include completing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) as part of commercial transactions. Task may also include sampling of suspect building materials for asbestos and paints and coatings for Lead Based Paint. Tasks will also include reporting and development of design drawings in preparation for Professional Engineer review. May occasional require overnight travel to complete multi-day projects.
- Work with field technicians, staff scientists and engineers and the project manager to prepare remediation system designs, due diligence reports, asbestos and lead reports for P.E. review.
- Plan, perform, and organize field data collection and review.
- Assist with planning, directing, and overseeing the successful and safe delivery of work scope, schedule, budgets, and client expectations for engineering and environmental projects.
- Perform office work and field work in support of LTE’s clients.
- Provide direction to junior staff, prepping for field work, and general project management.
- Interact with contractors and clients in the field.
- Communicate regularly with Client Managers, Group Managers, and Project Managers.
- Ability to represent LTE in a positive manner in front of Clients and communicate effectively with clients about project activities.
- Local travel to multiple project locations in rural areas on unpaved roads. Overnight stays to complete larger projects is infrequent but expected. LTE pays all travel expenses.
- Overnight travel may be necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
- Engineering in training registration required.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as an environmental consultant or working in a comparable professional environment.
- Experience with the remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents and metals.
- Previous experience with the completion of Phase I and II ESA due diligence process.
- Previous experience with asbestos and lead-based paint surveys. Certification as a certified Colorado asbestos Building Inspector a plus.
- Understanding of groundwater hydrology, slug test, single and multi-well pump tests, and general principles of fate and transport of contaminants.
- General civil engineering principals and understand grading and variety of civil design plan sets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be detail oriented with excellent analytical, judgment and problem-solving capabilities in order to ensure compliance with relevant state/federal regulations and client-specific requirements.
- Technical writing skills, people skills, and time management skills.
- A safety-first approach to all work activities. HAZWOPER certification is a plus.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with AutoCAD a plus.
- Ability to follow direction and work independently, as well as, in a team environment and a positive professional attitude.
- Ability to travel locally, work independently, and work outdoors year-round and potentially on the weekend.
- Have a valid driver’s license; motor vehicle record free of major infractions, and a commitment to safe operations.
- Applicant must be able to pass a drug screen and baseline physical.
- Must be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs., walk around construction sites, climb ladders, slopes and berms, and cross uneven terrain, sometimes in extreme weather conditions.
