Position Summary

The Sales Engineer for the HVAC Equipment Sales division will sell mechanical equipment and technical solutions. This position will drive the business unit forward by achieving solid results in the industrial and commercial business sectors.

Pay Range:

First 6 Months: $ 55,670 - $94,201

After 6 Months: 100% commission

Responsibilities
  • Prepares detailed, accurate bids and proposals. Executes timely prior approvals, properly coordinates bids, writes thorough and timely quotes and sends timely scope letters
  • Promptly submits accurate and thorough submittals with a good choice of most economical products, and takes appropriate risks
  • Punctual with commitments to customers, phone calls, job problems, and credit issues. Follow up on jobs after bid and obtain appropriate information and close orders. Prepares equipment orders in a precise and timely fashion
  • Performs routine sales duties with little or no supervision, including planning and executing daily activities i.e. sales calls, lunches, customer entertainment, and factory visits
  • Proposes ideas, and finds new and innovative ways of selling
  • Accepts new assignments and assumes additional duties when necessary even though these efforts may not contribute directly to income; works for the common good
  • Actively participates in local ASHRAE chapter
  • Provides input to sales management for testimonials, case studies and reference letters
  • Works with customer service people, regional sales managers, service and warranty people, and develops positive, productive relationships with them
  • Frequently gets LONG listed as basis of specifications through effective sales work with consulting engineers and owners
  • Influences consulting engineers to keep specs current with technology and industry practices to avoid unnecessary job costs and confusion
  • Cooperates and communicates effectively with inside salespeople, other LONG sales personnel and managers, office staff, sales managers, and supplier personnel
  • Demonstrates proper and ethical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Successfully communicates with, trains, and challenges their assigned inside person
  • Sells the value of LONG’s proposals and getting the order when LONG is not “low”
  • Generates and executes sales plans for specific accounts including owners, consulting engineers and installing contractors
  • Assists consulting engineers with the design of HVAC mechanical systems
  • Pursues orders for equipment by following projects from the planning stage through completion
  • Coordinates order status, installation assistance, and warranty administration with customers, manufacturers, and other LONG personnel
  • Takes at least two factory visits with customers each year
  • Abides by all LONG and OSHA safety regulations at all times
  • Drives defensively and obeys all traffic laws including LONG safe driver policy (avoids all confrontational driving situations)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in an engineering science preferred
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience successfully selling and/or applying HVAC equipment
  • Possesses the practical/technical knowledge required to apply and sell all products, and pursues additional job related knowledge
  • Solid understanding of basic heat and mass transfer concepts.
  • Excellent initiative and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence the decision-making process at key levels
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization with professionalism

  • Routine sitting, lifting, bending, and kneeling
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. from floor to countertop and countertop to floor
