Senior Network Engineer

Overall Responsibilities  

The Sr. Network Engineer's primary responsibilities are to plan, design, implement and test network solutions to meet the needs of all areas of network operations. Such operational areas include but are not limited to colo and cloud data centers including customer and service provider connectivity and the LiveVox corporate office networks. This position works closely with various groups across Technical Operations disciplines including Systems, Storage, Database, VOIP/VIMP, NOC/SOC and others across the organization. The position is responsible for creating and maintaining documentation and diagrams for the solutions and operations.  Further, this position also performs implementation and operational tasks associated with network infrastructure devices such as but not limited to firewalls, load balancers, switches, routers, IDS/IPS and their associated logging data.  

Specific Responsibilities 

  • Design, test, implement and document network solutions and data communications systems in accordance with defined requirements in functional and compliance areas. 
  • Perform network modeling, analysis, and planning. 
  • Develop test plans, implementation plans, and project timelines for various projects. 
  • Manage technology vendors and support cases. 
  • Stay abreast of how technology infrastructures are currently impacting and driving solutions. 
  • Assess vendor development and product directions. 
  • Provide expert consultation for major network initiatives or incidents. 
  • Evaluate emerging technologies against business and IT strategic needs. 
  • Serve as a key representative on major network initiatives. 
  • Update standards and guidelines. 
  • Lead high level scoping and costing activities. 
  • Guide and influence team members. 
  • Create presentations/solutions and articulate to boards and executives. 
  • Work with other SMEs and technical support teams in the pursuit of technically excellent solutions. 
  • Review and evaluate high availability, business continuation and disaster recovery strategies. 
  • Review designs for standards compliance, architecture compliance and information security. 
  • Work with the network operations and project delivery teams to promote network standards and compliance. 
  • Collaborate with business users, technical staff and management to define business and technical requirements. 
  • Research, evaluate and approve vendor services and solutions. 
  • Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common and escalated network problems or suspected network problems. 
  • Upgrade network hardware and software components as required.  
  • Solve complex problems with many variables. 


 The ideal candidate for this position will have 5+ years of experience working with LANs and WANs in a corporate network environment, High Availability Architecture and attention to End user experience.   The candidate must be able to demonstrate a strong ability to communicate effectively and must be able to work well both individually as well as in a team environment.  

 Qualifications & Requirements 

The skills enumerated below apply to physical and virtual implementations in on-premises as well as cloud environments and virtual public cloud (VPC.) 

  • Expert knowledge of LAN, WAN and Border routing technologies, carrier services such as MPLS, network segmentation and virtual LAN (VLAN) routing & forwarding (VRF). 
  • Thorough understanding of modern service provider TCP/IP data networks using standards and Various L2 and L3 routing and switching technologies supporting business continuation (BC) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions for high availability (HA) and failover for switch stacks, uplinks, top of rack, core and border.  
  • Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems, network facilities, electrical, UPS, etc.  
  • Ability to work alone as an individual contributor, as a technical lead and as a participant in a team environment.  
  • Strong working knowledge of SIP and VOIP implementations, traffic shaping (QoS/CoS), traffic capture and analysis and isolation. 
  • Experience with Network security best practices and network monitoring, information security approaches including but not limited to firewall configurations, log analysis, threat vectors and risk assessment, intrusion detection. 
  • Expert knowledge of cryptographic protocols, VPN tunneling technologies such as IPSEC, SSL (TLS) and others. 
  • Advanced-level knowledge and expertise in network infrastructure, with significant experience including, but not limited to: DHCP, DNS, IPSEC VPN, Cisco Catalyst and ASA, Palo Alto, dynamic routing protocols, 802.11 
  • Experience with working in a high availability corporate environment, automating routine functions such as patching and standardized deployments 
  • Experience working with both internal and external teams to gather requirements, scope designs, and plan implementations, coordinate manufacturer and VAR efforts 
  • Experience in performing gap analysis for existing solutions and designing and proposing enhancements to improve operational efficiencies 
  • Highly motivated with a true passion to design and deliver

  • Willing to take on challenges and ability to multitask several priorities 
  • Ability to provide clear, concise and unambiguous written and verbal communications

  • Must be available for occasional after hours maintenance and platform related project
