Position Intro

Bring user-generated content to life in vivid detail as part of our team of engineers on Second Life™ as a dedicated senior graphics engineer. We’ve defined what virtual worlds can be, but we need you to help make them look even more awesome on every platform we support.


Responsibilities

  • Support the Second Life™ graphics engine using OpenGL on Windows and OS X
  • Develop new rendering techniques and implement them in the Second Life™ viewer
  • Integrate and update third-party libraries for mesh and texture decoding
  • Code-review and integrate open-source contributions to the Second Life™ viewer

  • OpenGL programming (both pre and post deprecation flavors)
  • Develop graphics shaders with GLSL
  • Diagnosing rendering errors with tools like nSight or Pix
  • Performance analysis (CPU and GPU)
  • Metal/D3D12/Vulkan API programming
  • Good written communication skills

Extra Bonus Skills:

  • AR/VR Headset development
  • GPU Compute programming
  • Codec expertise (specifically, JPEG2K and PNG)

  • Familiarity with and enthusiasm for Second Life is a huge plus.
  • A sense of humor and a never-ending curiosity to love the really creative things our Residents do within our virtual world, especially when they do them in ways we didn’t think were possible.

 
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent academic training and experience.  

 

Experience

  • Experience working in a highly distributed team

Travel Requirements

No travel required, but willingness to travel to team collaboration events up to a few times a year is a plus.
