Job Overview

As the Media Planner, you are the “Master of Detail”, responsible for ensuring that client communication strategies across all media channels (traditional and digital) are effectively and accurately developed and communicated into actionable plans. You will work hand in hand with the Head of Planning to ensure that their vision and strategic tone for the various client businesses is executed. You are tasked with building and maintaining strong relationships with the day-to-day media clients while also striving to be an expert in their business through research and investigating. This person has a hunger for leveraging data in their thinking and exercises a curious mindset at all stages of planning showing eagerness to learn more. The Media Planner must be organized, creative, confident, and strive to solve problems. This person must maintain a positive attitude in an ever-changing media environment while showing the ability to juggle multiple projects at once.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities for the Media Planner lies in four key areas: Strategic Planning, Campaign Stewardship, Relationship Building, and Team Development

Strategic Planning: Assist in the development and execution of client communication strategies across various campaigns delivering on key business objectives and goals. This requires data-led strategic thinking, creative and innovative problem solving, hunger to become an “expert” in client’s business, and eagerness to stay in the know on marketplace/consumer trends. Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Develop strong understanding of client’s business and product verticals/competitors through proactive 1st and 3rd party research

· Work closely with Head of Media Planning and Strategy team to develop audience segments

· Leverage research tools and data sources to gather and analyze information needed for the planning team to provide sound and strategic consumer insight driven media recommendations

· Demonstrate strong understanding and application of media fundamentals across various channels – TV, CTV, OLV, Digital (includes social platforms), Audio (streaming and radio), OOH, and Print

· Look to the latest consumer and/or marketplace trends to identify at least one new “innovative” addition to each plan put forward to clients. Innovative addition can include but not limited to new partner, channel, tactic, data usage, opportunity audience, etc.

Campaign Stewardship: Manage day-to-day needs of client media plans in close collaboration with the 3E Media Buying team which includes monitoring the execution of campaign strategies across buys, input on campaign optimizations and pacing, and managing client requests and feedback to ensure seamlessness across client business. Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Work hand in hand with the Senior Buyer and Associate Buyer to ensure campaign strategy is being executed through the right partners and tactics included in final recommendations

· Provide input to Media Buying team when real-time campaign optimizations are needed through data-informed and/or marketplace intelligence

· Contribute strategic insights and recommendation optimizations based on performance across client facing campaign reporting and measurement materials

Relationship Building: Ensuring collaboration, diplomacy, and trust across 3E media team, 3E agency team, key media partners, day-to-day clients, and day-to-day partnering agency teams. Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Become a specialist of our client’s businesses making it easier to serve as their key day-to-day partner; strive to identify and share solutions to their business problems without being afraid to say when something didn’t work; build trust and maintain clear open communication

· Work hand in hand with the Senior Buyer and Associate Buyer counterparts to ensure seamless integration across planning and buying teams

· Maintain relationships with key media owners while staying up to date with new offerings and solutions across the marketplace

· Serve as key voice and representative of the Media Team across other 3E agency disciplines when possible (Account, Creative, Strategy, Experiential, etc.); regularly attend (video on) and participate in cross-discipline meetings

Team Development: Manage and develop the skillsets of junior planning team members. As the Media Planner it is your job to onboard, teach, and grow the Associate Media Planner. Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Maintain daily communication with the Associate Media Planner to ensure their priorities for the day and week are clear, understood, and being actioned on

· Set up regular touch-bases with the Associate Media Planner to ensure their questions are being addressed, constructive feedback is being shared, and their fundamental understanding of media continues to develop

What Success Look Like

The Media Planner is successful when they are:

· Contributing to and growing the success of media plans, recommendations, POV’s, etc.

· Seamless translation and execution of client communication strategies into actionable media buys

· Notably growing skillset and responsibilities of the Associate Media Planner so they can begin managing higher level of responsibilities

· Seamlessly integrating and collaborating with other agency disciplines during planning and reporting


Minimum qualifications to be in this role are:

· Solid understanding of media planning functions across both traditional and digital media

· Comfortable with data, analytics, and measurement

· Knowledge of current trends and innovations in media

· 2-3 years of work experience in a relevant field (advertising/media)
