Summary:

Responsible for managing senior project managers that oversee cross-functional team activities that ensure specialty product projects (NDA, biosimilar, 505(b) (2)) and generics are completed and filed on-time. Establishes new and/or updates existing policies, procedures and systems necessary to scope, resource, manage and measure projects and their associated teams required to ensure all required materials are prepared for filing and products are successfully launched. Acts as a key member of the executive portfolio management team to ensure effective balance and strategic alignment of our pipeline.

Responsibilities:

  • Use knowledge of market and products to propose new opportunities.
  • Assist senior management in the assessment of new projects and the ongoing balance and alignment of the portfolio vs. strategic and financial objectives.
  • Oversee the project management of the entire R&D portfolio.
  • Monitor the performance of the functional PM areas and their leads.  Recommend adjustments and coach direct reports to ensure project success.
  • Recommend solutions to address resource and SME gaps to include hiring of resources, outsourcing and training.
  • Ensure coordination of activities between generic, specialty and API projects.
  • Organize and manage project charters, meetings and plans.
  • Ensure project is effectively resourced, progressing and completed on time.
  • Identify and escalate issues that can’t be resolved by the team.
  • Identify PM system gaps needed to support project management of all products.
  • Develop new systems or modify existing procedures to address the unique needs/demands of generic, specialty and API products.
  • Identify and utilize external resources as needed where internal expertise doesn’t exist.
  • Stay current with PM tools and systems.  Incorporate key learnings into PM policies & procedures.
  • Evaluate team member and leader performance and provide feedback to improve performance.
  • Train team members/leaders on PM tools and techniques.
  • Coach management in other departments on methods and approaches to improve project performance.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree requires, Masters / PMP preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years managing projects in the pharmaceutical industry.  Experience managing product development projects is required.  Experience in both the branded/specialty and generic sides of the industry is necessary.
  • Computer literacy, particularly with project management software is required.
  • Excellent leadership skills.  Able to manage across a broad cross-section of the organization, sometimes without direct authority.
  • Critical thinker, decisive and capable of developing pro-active and creative solutions to problems that arise in order to meet project timelines.
  • Organized and flexible.  Capable to managing complex projects in multiple categories in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong oral and written communicative skills.
  • Travel to other sites (internal and 3rd party, both domestic and international) will be required to support projects. (<20%).
