Planning and Scheduling Supervisor

Job Summary:

This position reports to the Senior Manager of Strategic Planning and is responsible for leading production planning activities while managing the execution and decision making of the day-to-day production scheduling and shop floor schedules to maintain adequate inventory levels and assure no supply disruption.

Specific activities include leading the production planning and MPS development, finished good inventory forecasting and monitoring of supply risks & shortages, management of production master schedule and attainment, and shop floor scheduling attainment.

This position manages and leads the production master scheduler and the shop floor scheduler advising on day-to-day activities and decisions, as well as working with upper management to identify short and long term solutions to improve productivity and minimize potential supply disruptions while developing and monitoring associated KPI’s to meet departmental goals.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: 


Production Planning & MPS Development

  • Support monthly sales demand management review process and assure final agreed upon volumes are updated in key planning tools & SAP to drive planned production and material requirements.
  • Maintain the long-term production planning model reflecting the timing and quantity of batches to be produced to meet finished good inventory targets
  • Develop the monthly mfg. lot plan and lead cross functional meetings with shop floor,  new  product development, and materials to decide upon agreed lot plan and priorities and adjust MPS to reflect production capabilities.
  •  Support slide deck creation for the S&OP monthly supply review meeting including KPI updates, critical lot list and departmental action/decision.
  •  Manage associated KPI's for schedule adherence (Mfg. & QA)

Finished Good Inventory/Supply Mgmt.

  • Work with Mgmt. to establish and maintain agreed upon safety stock levels by product.
  • Create finished good inventory reports weekly to capture on-hand Inventory, monitor trends, and track supply shortages which are linked to production master schedule and weekly shortage reports.
  • Create, present, and chair the weekly operations meeting across multi-sites in which shop floor and commercial issues are discussed and coordinate resolution on actions with all departments.
  • Manage finished good obsolescence report that is summarized and communicated in the monthly S&OP Demand Mgmt. meeting to review risk and arrive at decisions to avoid destruction costs.
  • Track and report on associated KPI's for Inventory mgmt.(Mfg. & QA)
  • Maintain the order monitoring report which compares actual orders against monthly demand and inventory levels to determine release/hold on orders to avoid supply disruption.

Production Master Schedule and Shop Floor Mgmt.

  • Oversee the production master schedule and shop floor schedule and work cross functionally with other departments to resolve any issues affecting scheduled production in their respective areas.
  • Support ongoing development and implementation of a long term solution to automate shop floor scheduling processes.
  • Oversee the issuance of daily shop floor schedules and track plan vs. actual reporting by batch and work center.  Communicate scheduling delays to the operations team.
  • Implement a reporting structure that tracks batch actual cycles times vs. standards used in future planning & resource model updates and to drive mfg. scheduling, process, and resource improvements.

Other Activities

  • Look for ways to develop systems and process improvements & create policies/procedures to streamline activities.
  • As required, serve as back up for the Production Master Scheduler and the Strategic Planning Department Manager.

  • High School Diploma required, Bachelors Degree Preferred 
  • As required, serve as back up for the Production Master Scheduler and the Strategic Planning Department Manager.
  • 5+ years of relevant Supply Chain experience including production plan development/execution, shop floor scheduling, performance reporting/monitoring, and project management.
  • 2+ years of supervising day-to-day activities of production planning and scheduling
  • 3+ years of SAP experience or other ERP software  in the Supply Chain planning and scheduling modules

Physical Requirements/Environment:

  • Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Traditional office environment, with frequent walking to other areas of the facility, including production areas, loading docks, and warehouse.
  • Must wear safety glasses and other protective items as required.
