MISSION & VISION STATEMENT:

 

The Kewa Pueblo Health Corporation (KPHC) is established for the purposes of carrying out the vision and mission of the Santo Domingo Health Center (SDHC). POSITION PURPOSE:

 

Medical Assistants perform under general supervision a variety of medical and clerical tasks in an outpatient clinical setting serving the Native American population.  It is the expectation that the medical assistant will initially triage patients within an age range of pediatrics to geriatric, will register, assist with administrative services, assist with direct patient care and perform specialized medical procedures as per the organizations policy and procedure and provider by-laws.

In performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees of the Kewa Pueblo Health Center are expected to conform to the following:

  • Interact in an honest, trustworthy and dependable manner with patients, employees and vendors.
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Maintain a current insurable driver’s license.
  • Comply with all Kewa Pueblo Health Corporation and Santo Domingo Health Center policies and procedures, as well.
  • Maybe required to work extended work hours when needed based on patient services which may include lunch hours, weekends, and evenings.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administrative duties, including but not limited to, answering incoming telephone calls, scheduling patient appointments, obtaining required referrals for providers and collaborative care.
  • Maintain and stocks medical supplies as necessary.
  • May precept new employees to meet departmental competencies and job responsibilities.
  • Prepare a patient chart, obtain and or update a patient’s demographic and medical history including, but not limited to: allergies, medication history with dosage and frequency.
  • Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.
  • Knowledge of clinical outpatient administrative procedures.
  • Ability to perform standard clinical procedures.
  • Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and or infection control standards.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

 

          High School Diploma or GED equivalent.  Graduation from a certified Medical Assistant training program.

 

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of work experience as a Medical Assistant OR graduation from a certified Medical Assistant training program.

 

Certificate:

 

  • A current BLS (BLS) certificate.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

          Bilingual skills in English and the Keres native language.

  • Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. This position may be exposed to certain health risks that are inherent when working within a health center facility.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. Moderate physical activity.  Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 50 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours per day. Will also work with blood or blood-borne pathogens in alignment with AAAHC guidelines. Must perform all duties described herein without restriction.

 

MENTAL DEMANDS:

 

There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.
