Mashable is hiring an experienced and enthusiastic editor to help us expand our product reviews, guides, explainers, and other service-oriented content. This is a unique opportunity to build an impactful editorial strategy from the ground up, with hands-on editing work that informs and engages big audiences. From initial assignments to editing, publication, and distribution, the reviews editor will serve as the beating heart for Mashable’s service journalism. 

We’re looking for a data-obsessed editor with a deep understanding of voice and brand. The role will be highly collaborative and requires strong interpersonal skills: The initiative necessitates working across all of Mashable’s teams — editorial, video, commerce, art, and social media — to create and run a cohesive content plan. They’ll also work closely with Ziff Media Group’s analytics, growth, and product teams in order to meet ambitious goals for audience and engagement.

Then, of course, there’s the editing: This role is best suited for an editor who’s comfortable working closely with both staff writers and freelancers of varying levels of experience, always with an eye towards quality, depth, and style. And while the role’s primary responsibility is to assign and edit content, there’ll be no shortage of opportunities for bylines. As such, the ideal candidate must be an excellent writer who’s passionate about what they put on the page: writing with voice and personality is a must.

A typical day may involve working with a culture editor to assign zeitgeisty lifestyle product roundups, editing a staffer’s longform review of a flagship mobile product, recruiting and working with freelancers, or coordinating production calendars with the commerce and video teams.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of relevant experience writing and editing at a publication or in a digital media environment.
  • A passion for service journalism, with a demonstrated history of creating content that serves to inform audiences and provide guidance.
  • Deep knowledge of consumer technology, gadgets, and lifestyle products.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Understanding of Mashable's core coverage areas and voice.
  • Based in New York.
