Job Summary:  

We are a global cloud storage provider, part of a billion dollar global group. Together our aim is to create the biggest and most advanced cloud storage platform in the world. Our parent company already owns many famous cloud storage brands and we lead their EU cloud division from our London based office. We are growing rapidly, bringing in large numbers of new customers every month and constantly improving our platform and products.

We manage tens of petabytes of data across Europe and the US. Our top-flight team of engineers is constantly working to improve the design and operation of our platforms, and to automate deployments and management of the servers and network.

We are looking for a Director Operations to lead our EU Operations team of Sysadmins, NetOps and DevOps engineers supporting, maintaining and improving infrastructure in Europe and US. You will be responsible for continuing the adoption of cutting-edge automation and configuration management tools. You will work with the Management team to plan for, and support, organic growth and growth through acquisitions, and guide and mentor the team members.

Job Duties:  

  • Manage the day to day tasks of EU and management of team members.
  • Provides strategic and tactical product direction.
  • Develop and control the annual capital budgets
  • Responsible for weekly/monthly/annual planning and reporting metrics.
  • Act as Point of escalation for major technical problems and complex customer setups.
  • Actively participates in cross functional project planning and coordination with Development, Marketing, CRM, CS, Sales, etc.
  • Vendor selection, price / contract negotiation.
  • SLA definition, implementation, monitoring and reporting.
  • Responsible for the management and support of a distributed data network.
  • Architecture, design, deployment, maintenance, monitoring and support of company's 24x7 application operations to meet company goals and customer commitments.
  • 24 x 7 management and troubleshooting of operations network. Selection, implementation and support of advanced monitoring tools.
  • Responsible for end-to-end IT including initial scoping, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, maintenance, support and operation of technology and support facilities (e.g., data centers, servers, storage, desktops, network security, etc.).
  • In addition, responsible for other IT including change management, asset management, capacity planning, etc.
  • Responsible for policies, methods, processes, measures, roles & responsibilities, capabilities, tools, templates, standards and training programs; responsible for planning, implementing and managing ITIL-based processes and related measures
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and the PMO to plan, estimate, coordinate and manage major initiatives
  • Responsible for reviewing current operations for efficiency improvements, consolidation, increasing density.
  • Works to ensure “on time” and “on budget” delivery of projects and product content.
  • Manage the deployment, maintenance and management of data centre infrastructure and server side applications
  • Assists in the evaluation of technologies and companies in concert with the Company’s M&A activities.
  • Coordinating with other global operations team to ensure knowledge sharing, collaboration and standardization

Job Requirements and Experience:  

  • 5+ years’ Senior or Director level experience managing an Operations team or manager of multiple managers, preferably within an Agile environment.
  • Majority of experience must be in online backup or Internet related services
  • Proven success through progressive management responsibility, ultimately leading to a senior management level position.
  • Strong Communication Skills with experience in cross-functional operations dealing with Marketing, Engineering, Project Management and Customer Support and other related groups
  • Proven leadership ability to motivate both on-site and remote staff.
  • Ability to maintain and develop relationships with internal and external business partners, vendors and customers.
  • International travel as needed
  • 3+ years’ working in a data centre environment, managing and maintaining physical servers
  • 5+ years of technical hands-on experience with or supporting operations activities
  • In-depth understanding of storage & architecture
  • In-depth understanding of networks – switching, firewalls, static routing, and awareness of dynamic routing technologies
  • Experience working with automation/deployment tools (e.g. chef/puppet) including source control would be advantageous
